Quick Links

In the earlier parts of The Callisto Protocol, melee combat is king. While ammo is scarce, your guns are more often than not saved for critical shots. In the later chapters of the game, Biophages start appearing in much larger groups, and melee combat has to take a backseat to guns for the remainder of the story.

The Assault Rifle is a weapon that requires a schematic to find and build but, luckily, is not too far out of the way. With a high magazine and starting with burst fire, this weapon is necessary for the two-headed mini-bosses and the final boss.

Where To Find The Schematic

The schematic for the assault rifle can be found in Chapter 7, Colony. Upon reaching the low town, you’ll have two opportunities to get it as you wander this section of the city for the first half of the chapter. Upon reaching the low town, you’ll need to find a ladder that takes you to the upper area. Next to the elevator, you power a ladder that brings you very close to the schematic.

Once in the upper areas, you’ll need to look for the corner bathroom with the lights flickering. To find this, head towards the General Store, which is one of the few labeled buildings, and run through it, taking the left path after exiting. From here, the bathroom is directly ahead, and the schematic sits on the sink along the left wall. After receiving the schematic, take it to the nearest printing station, where it will charge 1,000 credits to create the weapon.

Assault Rifle Upgrades

Assault Rifle With Upgraded Ammo Capacity

Right off the bat, this weapon has a three-round burst and 25 shots per magazine. The total damage and magazine size can also be upgraded, along with this weapon’s stability. While the stability upgrade is incredibly expensive, it is very worthwhile to make sure every shot fired with this weapon hits its mark. Without the upgrade, the recoil after each shot can easily miss its intended target if they are far away.

This weapon’s alt-fire has it firing homing bullets. Another good way to not waste your ammo when fighting the hordes of Biophages is in the last chapter. This chapter also has a few interesting mini-boss fights that the assault rifle can make short work of. Be sure to save your ammo for this weapon until you reach these more challenging fights. Should you upgrade this gun enough, battles at the end of the game can simply come down to if you have enough bullets. Whenever you find and pick up ammo for this gun, it will average around 20 bullets. Considering the strength of each bullet fired from this gun, looting assault rifle bullets is some of the best loot you can find.
