Spider-Man 4 From Sam Raimi Could Happen If He Figures Out This One Thing

Director Sam Raimi has said he has no plans to make another Marvel movie amid rumors that he could direct an upcoming Avengers film and/or direct a new Spider-Man film with Tobey Maguire. Speaking to TheWrap, Raimi said simply, “I don’t have any plans.”

He’s not against the idea of making another Marvel movie, though. “I would love it,” he said.

Unverified rumors have suggested Raimi could direct 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, but this is not confirmed. Fans are also wondering if Raimi could make a fourth entry in his Spider-Man series that brings back Maguire as Spider-Man. Fans may recall that Raimi had plans for a fourth film before Sony Pictures decided to go another way and reboot the series with The Amazing Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield.

Raimi told TheWrap that he hasn’t thought about making another Spider-Man movie with Maguire. Before he would consider it, he would have to figure out the story, and specifically what Spider-Man would have to learn.

“I’d have to talk with Tobey, and the writers, and really figure out what his personal growth for this episode would be,” he said. “I think if we were to make a fourth Spider-Man film, we’d probably have to figure out the journey that Tobey Maguire his character would be going on, and what obstacles he had to overcome to achieve that growth personally.”

He added that, should he ever make this movie, he hopes he could find the right villain to fight against Spider-Man who represents the obstacle that Spider-Man is trying to overcome.

Before this, Spider-Man 3 actor Thomas Hayden Church said Spider-Man 4 could happen, but Raimi has said time and again that if it is happening, he doesn’t know about it.

Raimi directed Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and previously said he’s on “great terms” with Marvel, which has fueled the speculation of him coming back.

In other Spider-Man news, a fourth Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland is in the works. Holland recently said he is protective of the Spider-Man legacy and doesn’t want to rush it. The Spider-Man characters played by Maguire, Garfield, and Holland appeared together in Spider-Man: No Way Home as part of a multiverse storyline.
