God of War Ragnarok is on its way to arrive earlier in November this year, and ESRB has already rated the game for mature players due to its bloody action scenes that include dismemberment as well as the use of explicit language.
According to the ESRB rating page of God of War Ragnarok, “the words “f**k” and “sh*t” are heard in the game,” which reveals what kind of explicit language you can expect from the in-game characters. The rating page refers to both Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos as the combat equipment, using which results in a large amount of blood splatter as well as the dismemberment of the enemies.
Regarding the fact that God of War (2018) was also rated for mature players, it was expected that Ragnarok would follow the same path as the gore and violence of the game don’t seem to be reduced in the new iteration based on what we have already seen from the trailers so far.
Unfortunately, the ESRB rating page doesn’t reveal anything further about the game we have not heard or seen officially yet. Ragnarok is supposed to put an end to the adventure of Kratos in Norse mythology, but it remains unknown what would be next for the franchise after Ragnarok and whether Kratos would still remain the main face of the franchise or not.
Targeting a release on November 8, 2022, God of War Ragnarok will have the chance to compete for the Game of the Year award in this year’s The Game Awards ceremony. Regarding the fact that its predecessor achieved the Game of the Year award back in 2018 in a tough competition against Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2, Ragnarok will have an even harder path to achieve the same trophy as Elden Ring is already considered the most important Game of the Year contender in 2022.
It’s worth noting that Cory Barlog is not directing God of War Ragnarok as he is busy working on a new IP for Sony at the Santa Monica studios, but still, it doesn’t mean we should expect anything weaker than 2018’s God of War in quality.
