Get ready for the summer release of this 19th century romance.

On Monday, Kodakawa released the first promotional trailer for the upcoming TV anime, My Happy Marriage, confirming that it will be released this July. Along with the trailer, a teaser visual, and cast and staff members were also released. The upcoming anime is based on the light novels of the same name written by Akumi Agitogi and illustrated by Tsukiho Tsukioka.

The first promotional trailer comes in at just under two minutes, which allows just enough time to introduce the characters and give fans a little taste of the plot. The newest cast members announced with the promotional video release include Ayane Sakura as Kaya Saimori, Kōtarō Nishiyama as Kōji Tatsuishi, Houko Kumashima as Yurie, and Hiro Shimono as Yoshito Godō. Furthermore, the anime will star Reina Ueda as Miyo Saimori and Kaito Ishikawa as Kiyoki Kudo.

The anime adaptation is being directed by Takehiro Kubota at Kinema Circus, with Takao Abo leading the storyboards and supervision. The scripts are overseen by Ami Satō, Takahito Ōnishi, and Momoka Toyoda. Yuushi Koshida is the 3DCG director, and Shōko Tasuda is working on character design. The final staff member announcement is music composition by Violet Evergarden’s Evan Call.

The story is set in the 19th century Meiji Restoration era, where the main character Miyo Saimori is born without talent and is forced into servitude by her abusive stepmother. When Miyo finally becomes old enough for marriage, she dreams of being swept off her feet. Unfortunately, her husband-to-be is none other than the cruel and cold Kiyoka Kudo.

Rumor has it that his previous engagements lasted only three days due to his cruel nature. However, Miyo has no choice but to try. As she gets to know Kiyoka though, she discovers that he’s not quite the monster she expected. Maybe this is the happy ending she always dreamed of.

The My Happy Marriage light novel series was initially published online on the user-generated publishing site Shōsetsuka ni Narō. However, it was later picked up by Fujimi Shobo, who has published the series since 2019 under their Fujimi L Bunko imprint. Additionally, a manga adaptation illustrated by Riko Kohsaka was released in December 2018 on Square Enix’s Gangan Online service.

To top off the success of the series in print, a live-action film is set to premiere in Japan in March 2023, just a few months before the anime makes its way to screens in July. Keep an eye out for the streaming service or services that will air the show, because none have been announced just yet.
