There are a lot of materials you can use for Slime Science in Slime Rancher 2. If you plan on a large farm with a wide variety of slimes, you’ll want to invest in these materials, as you need Slime Science for upgrades, such as the jetpack, or even to build some nice trees to make your ranch look prettier.
Deep Brine can be one of the first materials you’ll stack up easily; you just need to know how to harvest the resource and the exact places the little geysers of Deep Brine form.
How To Harvest Deep Brine
The secret to harvesting Deep Brine is the same secret behind harvesting your other resources, such as Wild Honey — you’ll first need to use Slime Science to build a Resource Harvester. Because you’re building a Resource Harvester before you can harvest any resources, the only things you’ll need are money, called Newbucks, and Cotton Plorts, which drop from Cotton Plorts whenever they are fed vegetables.
The Resource Harvester is the only upgrade you’ll need to build. There’s no special tank to hold Deep Brine, as, like every material, the Brine will magically be put in individual containers while you gather it using your vacpack. With the upgrade out of the way, the next step is to find the material.
Where To Find Deep Brine
Deep Brine is a resource you’ll find very early, as there are geysers of the stuff in the starting area just outside your ranch. Deep Brine will spray out of these geyser holes, and after harvesting, the water will be completely gone until respawn, letting you know you’ve gathered all the material you can for the moment. It won’t be a large haul; you tend to get 2 bottles of Deep Brine per every geyser, but what makes up for this is just how many geysers of Deep Brine you can come across on your travels in Rainbow Fields.
Using the in-game map, here are the shorelines you can find the geysers.
To easily keep the locations in mind when not looking at the pictures, while playing, look at the map any time and look for lightly colored sand next to the ocean. The areas will roughly be the location, but as also seen above, there are places you can find geysers of Deep Brine that are grassy. However, that only applies to the geysers at the top of the map, the lower sections have their geysers in shady crags or high up on sandy cliffs.
The geysers in crags should be easy for you to harvest without needing the jetpack upgrade, but there are some Deep Brine locations only found by having the jetpack and flying up into the cliffs. Be warned — one of these locations also houses feral Largos, who you’ll need to feed to calm down else they attack you.
The more you play Slime Rancher 2, the more areas of the map you’ll have access to. Different areas have different resources to harvest, but there is some overlap, such as Radiant Ore. That said, the only place you’ll find Deep Brine is in Rainbow Field. If you unlock access to Starlight Strand or Ember Valley and find more geysers, these will not contain Deep Brine and will instead contain materials such as Silky Sand, Primordial Oil, and Lava Dust. Every resource is useful, but if you’re looking for Deep Brine, there is no substitute.
What To Upgrade Using Deep Brine
For such an early material, Deep Brine is surprisingly not necessary for most of the early game upgrades. The earliest upgrade the Fabricator will need Deep Brine for is the Water Tank. The water tank stores exactly that; water. Water has a ton of uses; you can personally water your gardens, damage the Tarr, and destroy crystal walls left by Crystal Slimes. The only things you’ll need are a pocketful of Newbucks and 10 Deep Brines stored away.
After that, Deep Brine will only be needed for further upgrades to previous inventions, such as the second upgrade of your Heart Module. Keep all of these facts in mind starting from your first trek into finding Deep Brine. Doing a full sweep of Rainbow Field should net you over 10 bottles of Deep Brine, enough for the Water Tank, plus a head start for after you upgrade your Heart Module. This isn’t taking into account the number you can harvest after building the jetpack because after you do, the extra areas you’ll access can net you nearly 20 bottles of Deep Brine from just one journey into Rainbow Field.
Deep Brine is not an early material due to it being useful early on; it’s better seen as an easily farmed early material that you’ll need plenty of later on. Just look for sand near the shore, and don’t worry about going anywhere besides Rainbow Field.
