Crafting The Fenris Set

The Fenris Set is composed of just three pieces: The Fenris Hood, Fenrist Coat, and Fenris Leggings. Each one uses the rare ingredient Fenris Hair which can only be found in the Frost Caves of the Mountains biome. That’s not the only ingredient, however, you’ll also need Wolf Pelts, Leather Scraps, and a Cultist Trophy. Here are the complete recipes for each piece:

Fenris Hood

20 Fenris Hair, 2 Wolf Pelts, 1 Cultist Trophy

Fenris Coat

20 Fenris Hair, 5 Wolf Pelts, 10 Leather Scraps

Fenris Leggings

20 Fenris Hair, 5 Wolf Pelts, 10 Leather Scraps

The total cost for crafting the set is 60 Fenris Hair, 12 Wolf Pelts, 20 Leather Scraps, and 1 Cultist Trophy, but if you plan to upgrade each piece to its max level, you’ll need 150 Fenris Hair, 72 Wolf Pelts, and 68 Leather Scraps instead. No matter how you slice it, that shopping list will involve a lot of grinding. Even if you find the Fenris Hair quickly, you’ll need to spend hours hunting enough Wolves to get the pelts you need.

Finding Fenris Hair

A strand of Fenris Hair sits on an altar in the Frost Caves, surrounded by two torches.

Fenris Hair is the second-rarest ingredient required for this armor, and again, you’ll need to delve into Frost Caves to find it. Inside those dungeons, you can find Fenris Hair in two places: hanging from the walls as a tapestry or lying on altars. Neither method is all that consistent or plentiful, so you’ll have to try and find lots of these formations if you hope to craft Fenris Armor.

The amount you get per cave varies drastically. Fenris Hair is much more likely to spawn in the stone brick rooms, so the more of those a Frost Cave has, the more hair you can expect to find. As a general rule of thumb, expect to have to search around 10 caves before you complete the set.

Why You Want Fenris Armor

A player stands in the Mountains dressed in full Fenris Armor.

Fenris Armor is exceptional for a few reasons. The most notable one is that it is the only armor to improve your movement speed instead of decrease it. With a full set of Fenris gear, you’ll move 9% faster than normal, which while not too noticeable can definitely make certain fights easier. On top of that, sporting the Fenris set will give you resistance to both Fire and Frost Damage, which are the two most common elemental damage types behind Poison.

This wolf-themed armor will also improve your Fists skill by 15 levels while worn, meaning your bare punches will deal more damage and cost less stamina. This is meant to compliment the Flesh Rippers, a melee weapon that is also made with Fenris Hair and is the only Fists weapon in the game. It’s also nice that you can pair any cape you want with this armor since it’s only composed of three pieces.

The downside for all these special traits is that Fenris Armor has a low armor value, capping out at 48 when fully upgraded. The other Mountains-specific armor set, Wolf Armor, gives 60 armor before any upgrades, and this difference will only grow as you progress later in the game.
