Eagle-eyed EastEnders fans spotted a vital clue on Thursday night’s episode as to who the Christmas victim could be.

Ahead of Rocky Cotton (Brian Conley) and Kathy Beale’s (Gillian Taylforth) wedding, the duo enjoyed their stag and hen do’s as Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) organised a poker game as part of the celebrations.

With Nish confident he’d win the game, he put forward his amber cufflinks and a huge wad of cash.

Although Rocky ended up winning, he gave the cufflinks to Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) with Nish cryptically saying: “Wear them in health!”

However, as cufflinks were seen on the corpse during the Christmas flash-forward episode, fans were quick to react to the clue that Jack Branning could be the dead body.

@LiamUp716786 said: “The cufflinks are in play!! #followthecufflinks #EastEnders.”

@BridgeStTroll added: “Spoiler alert: An icy dagger went through my heart when I saw who ended up with the infamous cufflinks tonight. Not him. PLEASE not him. It’s wild that you don’t realise how much you love a character until they’re possibly facing death lol. #EastEnders.”

@Chadderbox2018 commented: “No spoilers but do we think the person who now has the cufflinks is still going to have them by Xmas? A lot can happen between now and then! #EastEnders.”

@HPlaysPiano tweeted: “The cufflinks!! A clue?? #EastEnders.”

@Bhoney1990 said: “Absolutely they cannot kill Jack Branning We’ll riot!”

With @eightiesmix adding: “Jack having the cufflinks … this is the worst game of pass the parcel ever I’m so scared.”

The flash forward special, which was a first for the BBC soap, aired in February this year and saw six well-established female characters standing in the Queen Vic.

Denise (Diane Parish), Kathy (Gillian Taylforth), Linda (Kellie Bright), Sharon (Letitia Dean), Stacey (Lacey Turner) and Suki (Balvinder Sopal) all surrounded a lifeless body on the floor, hinting to viewers one or possibly even more of them were responsible for the death.

Whilst the group of women were clearly shocked by the incidents that had unfolded, Stacey had blood over her hands, Denise held a broken champagne bottle and Sharon was in a wedding dress.

As Sharon checked on the unknown body, she confirmed to the other ladies, whoever the man was, was indeed dead.

Speaking about the scene, creator Chris Clenshaw said: “I’m not going to give anything away that the episode hasn’t already given, but what I will say is there were clues in there.

“Did you look closely? I urge everyone to re-watch the scene and look at every detail.

“There are also a few treats in the scene if you look hard enough. What I’d also say is that a lot can happen in Walford between February and December.”

EastEnders continues Mondays-Thursdays on BBC One from 7:30pm.
