Dying Light 2 is celebrating its first anniversary with a brand new community-focused update.

Developer Techland has rolled out a brand-new update for Dying Light 2, which includes many features requested by the community such as cross-gen and NVIDIA DLSS3 support, along with plenty of bug fixes and 3rd-party DRM protection removal.

The latest update introduces a new feature drawing inspiration from the original Dying Light – Legendary Levels. This new addition serves as an advanced skill tree offering players the opportunity to unlock extra perks and passive skills along with unique outfits at various legendary ranks, but only after maxing out their existing skill trees.

Popular timed mini-games, Dynamic Competitions, are also making a comeback in update 1.9.0. Randomly occurring during friendly competitions, Dynamic Competitions challenge players to complete tasks such as killing a set number of zombies or racing to reach a designated goal for valuable rewards and some added excitement.

Addressing a major issue from the game’s initial release, the updated ragdoll physics and AI reactions will now result in a more realistic infected behavior upon taking damage, and developers assure that further improvements in this area are in the works. In addition, the game also introduces many quality-of-life features that players will appreciate, including the ability to skip cutscenes, the option to set the number of crafted items, improved world textures, and new 1-handed axe animations.

All players will now also receive the Pilgrim Outfit at the beginning of the game as a bonus and an extra touch of style to the immersive experience.

The update brings about some UI improvements and a host of gameplay fixes as well, including a full list of improvements to the co-op feature. Moreover, players can now team up with each other across different generations of consoles, and those with a VRR monitor and NVIDIA GU support can take advantage of the new DLSS3 feature.

However, it is important to note that for optimal performance, the GPU scheduling must be turned on. The monitor also might not display the correct frames, but the developer promises to fix this in the next update.

A full list of changes can be viewed in the latest patch notes on the game’s official website. Alongside the release of the update, Techland also confirmed that the Dying Light series has achieved the milestone of 30 million units sold. It is also the first anniversary of Dying Light 2, and that’s why the team has prepared special prizes for completing community goals during the themed Bloody Anniversary event (31/01 – 09/02) and Dropkick weekend (09/02 – 13/02).

Techland also teased that 2023 is going to be an even better year for Dying Light 2, as the team is committed to supporting the game with post-launch content for at least five years.
