Ariana Grande And Cynthia Erivo Went Full Glinda And Elphaba At The Oscars. Now, I’m Even More Excited For Wicked
With the first of two Wicked movies slated on the 2024 movie schedule, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo made sure to pay homage to their upcoming musical at this year’s Oscars. If you were watching the 2024 Academy Awards, you likely saw the outfits that evoked major Glinda and Elphaba vibes as the two looked incredible in their pink and green gowns. Now, after seeing these gorgeous gowns, I’m even more excited for Wicked!
Playing the good witch Glinda, Ariana Grande rocked a wonderful pink dress by Giambattista Valli, per Elle, as you can see below:
Ari really went full good witch in her gown, and it reminds me of the bubble Glinda floats in. Along with her light pink dress exuding the energy of the witch she’s playing, the pop star is also rocking her blonde hair, which she has had since she began filming Wicked.
Meanwhile, Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba in the Wicked cast, rocked a dress fit for the wicked witch wearing a green Louis Vuitton number, per Red Carpet Fashion Awards.
The Elphaba actress said on the red carpet, via Fashionista, that she intentionally nodded to her Wicked character, saying:
We wanted a little nod to it, which is why we have a little green. But I’m all about texture, and, wonderfully, Nicolas [Ghesquière] and Louis Vuitton, they work very well with me and they listen to my crazy ideas. We knew we wanted a nod to it, but we also wanted to have this feeling, this witchy texture — so, it’s leather, but baby soft.
Grande and Erivo presented Best Score and Best Original Song together, making the connection to Wicked even stronger. Seeing the pink and green next to each other was so fun, and the two look perfect:
This isn’t the first time Erivo and Grande have had matching looks. For the Super Bowl, which is where the Wicked trailer premiered, they also rocked corresponding sparkly jerseys that were pink and green. Their love for each other and this project is palpable, and it’s making me so excited for their movie! Between their care for the film, each other and the music, I have a feeling we’re about to see a masterpiece.
Along with these looks, Ariana Grande recently spoke about transforming into Glinda, and the trailer showed off Erivo’s upcoming iconic riff in “Defying Gravity.” All of this put together is making me more and more enthusiastic about Wicked.
Overall, these two looks the actress wore to the 2024 Oscars have me feeling over the moon about Wicked, and I can’t wait to see it in theaters on November 27.
