All difficulty settings in System Shock Remake

The older gamers among you may remember System Shock. The first-person shooter brought the horrors of a rogue AI and nasty-looking mutants to our screens. Today, we see a loving revamp of the classic horror shooter with System Shock 2023. The graphics have all been beautifully brushed up, but there is still a lingering element of the beautiful 1994 classic. The game keeps a slightly blocky atmosphere which only makes the re-rendered mutants all that more terrifying. However, if you’re just looking for a more casual, story-driven playthrough, there are many difficulty settings in System Shock you can tweak.

The remake of System Shock gives four different difficult settings to alter. This allows your gameplay to be just as hard or easy as you like it. For new players of the first-person horror genre, this makes System Shock much more accessible. But, if you’re a die-hard masochist, there is the option to make your game a real struggle.

Combat

This setting will change the number of enemies you encounter and just how hard they are to kill. The highest level will put bad guys in every corner of the game whilst easy will only have them occasionally. On easy mode, they will be nice and squishy too.

Mission difficulty setting

Easy mode gives waypoints and an unlimited amount of time to complete the game. Hard System Shock difficulty setting leaves the player with only 10 hours to save the station and has SHODAN, the antagonist, watching every move.

Cyber

This affects how the game responds to you in the levels. Easy leaves you to stroll casually through the game, whereas hard mode advertises itself as “If you die in the game, you die in real life.” I’m not sure I want to test that one.

Puzzle difficulty setting

This one is rather straightforward. The puzzles you encounter throughout your game will range from elementary to brain-bending, depending on your selection.

These four difficulty settings in System Shock make the game highly tailored to your preferred playstyle. Perhaps, like me, you love to get your kill on but hate wasting time staring at puzzles. These options let me play the way I want to and make the game way more accessible and enjoyable for more players.
