Hogwarts Legacy is a fantastic game with plenty to offer, but you can make it even more magical thanks to the power of mods. Even though the game hasn’t been out for that long, there are already hundreds of Hogwarts Legacy mods to choose from, with even more launching almost every day.

As it’s often the case with these things, all the mods covered in this article are only available for the PC version of Hogwarts Legacy and can be downloaded freely from NexusMods. While silly mods that turn your broom into Shrek or your wand into a gun are undoubtedly fun, we’re skipping those in order to focus on mods that improve your gameplay experience in a meaningful and immersive way.

10 Hogwarts Mod Merger

Hogwarts Mod Merger is the most important utility mod for the game and should generally be installed before anything else. This tool combines mods and makes otherwise incompatible ones work nicely with each other. It won’t work with every single mod available for Hogwarts Legacy, but it does support most of them. In some cases, it even works with out-of-date mods, though there’s always a risk of something breaking whenever you’re trying to merge those.

Hogwarts Mod Merger comes with a clean and user-friendly interface that allows players to add and merge mods with the simple click of a button. The latest version of the utility even has an option that lets users attempt to automatically patch outdated mods instead of having to wait for the mod authors to properly update them. Probably best to get the actual updates when they’re available, though, just to be on the safe side.

9 Ascendio

Ascendio mod for Hogwarts Legacy

Ascendio is the most popular Hogwarts Legacy mod at the moment, and it’s easy to see why. The mod acts as an unofficial patch that fixes some of the game’s most glaring technical problems. Among other things, the mod fixes issues related to stuttering and FPS drops while also improving the overall performance of the game.

Hogwarts Legacy’s technical issues will presumably be fixed by the developers at some point, but until that happens, this mod is a must-have. That said, Ascendio won’t work for everyone. Your mileage will always vary with mods like this, depending on your hardware and in-game settings. For the best results, make sure to turn RT off, experiment with G Sync if your monitor supports it, and limit your frame rate to 60 or 120 FPS.

8 Autohomora

Autohamora mod for Hogwarts Legacy

Lockpicking can be pretty boring in most games, and Hogwarts Legacy is no exception. The Alohomora minigame is kinda fun the first couple of times you do it, but it quickly becomes an absolute drag afterward. Luckily, you don’t have to bother with it anymore if you don’t want to because the Autohomora mod allows you to skip it entirely. It’s worth noting that even with this mod installed, you’ll still need to complete the quest that unlocks Alohomora before you can start lock-picking doors and chests.

Autohomora’s installation process is a bit more complicated than most and involves moving around files and downloading third-party scripts. You can try to make life easier for yourself by using the Hogwarts Mod Merger, but you should still carefully read the installation guide and check out the comments just in case it doesn’t work.

7 School Makeup (And Other Character Customization Mods)

School Makeup mod for Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy’s character creator is surprisingly limited compared to those of most modern RPGs. Modding the game won’t drastically improve it, but it will give you some more options to work with. One of the better customization mods available right now is School Makeup, and it allows you to create much prettier characters. The makeup isn’t excessive or over-the-top, and while it’s mostly designed for female characters, there is a preset that works for male characters, too.

If you’re looking for a mod that adds more complexions, you’ll want to go with Vessnelle’s Complexions instead. Meanwhile, Paler And Darker Skins For Player Character is the mod you’ll want if you’re looking for a wider variety of skin tones. Skin mods don’t play well with each other, so make sure to only install one of them. The three mods mentioned earlier are a good starting point, but you can find many more on NexusMods if you’re looking for alternatives.

6 Hogwarts Legacy Realism Overhaul

Realism Overhaul mod for Hogwarts Legacy

Realism Overhaul is a reshade mod that makes Hogwarts Legacy look a bit nicer. The game already looks beautiful even without any visual mods, but the excessive bloom can be a turn-off for some people. This mod gets rid of it while also making everything look crisper and more realistic in the process. Even if you like the bloom, we still recommend getting this mod because it also improves some of the colors and lighting.

Hogwarts Legacy eats up a lot of resources, so only use a mod like this if your machine can handle it. If you’re looking for a more performance-friendly alternative, consider the Sharp and Natural Lighting mod instead. Neither of these mods touch the game’s textures and can be combined with texture mods without causing any conflicts.

5 Mouse Controls For Broom

Mouse Control For Brooms mod for Hogwarts Legacy

Unlocking and upgrading brooms in Hogwarts Legacy is tons of fun, but actually flying on them can definitely feel a bit janky at times — especially if you’re playing with a mouse and keyboard. While Mouse Controls For Broom doesn’t completely remove the jankiness, it does make flying with a mouse a lot more enjoyable. Once installed, the mod allows you to ascend, descend, steer, and rotate by using just your mouse. The mod removes the need to use keys, however, you can continue to use them or switch back and forth whenever you want.

It’s important to note that Mouse Controls For Broom is not a free fly camera mod. If you want to unlock the camera and look around mid-flight you’ll need another mod from the same creators called Free Look Camera. The two mods are compatible with each other, but Free Look Camera is dependent on another mod called Blueprint Apparate Modloader. Nearly two dozen other mods also depend on Blueprint Apparate Modloader, so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to grab it now just in case you’ll need it later.

4 ROR Upgrado

ROR Upgrado mod for Hogwarts Legacy

This mod can be a huge time-saver, but it also feels a bit like cheating, so it’s up to you whether you want to use it or not. ROR Upgrado expands Vivariums and the Room of Requirement in several ways. Among other things, it increases plants, potions, and beast materials yields, greatly decreases brew times, adds extra slots to conjured items, removes placement restrictions, and more. In addition, the mod also increases the number of beast species you can have in your Vivariums. Just keep in mind that the mod may interfere with the vanilla Vivarium upgrade system.

ROR Upgrado is an all-in-one mod, but you can also find individual mods that only change certain aspects. For instance, the ROR Upgrado Lite mod keeps the usual yields and brew/growth times but adds all the other conveniences. Meanwhile, the Vivarium Upgrado standalone mod only changes Vivariums without touching the Room of Requirement.

3 Companions Mod

Companions mod for Hogwarts Legacy

Why travel around Hogwarts alone when you can bring along some friends? The Companions Mod allows you to recruit professors and fellow students to join you on your adventures. Companions can follow you around, help out in combat, and join you in the Room of Requirement. They can’t fly like the protagonist, but they will immediately teleport to your location once you land, so don’t worry about losing them.

The Companions Mod is still a work in progress, so expect some bugs and general weirdness. It’s recommended that you use the AnyTimeCompanion Mod alongside the Companions Mod for the best results and to make the installation process easier. Just by itself, the Companions Mod is an absolute hassle to install and might break your save file.

2 Spell Master

Spell Master mod for Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy already offers a decent selection of spells to choose from, but having even more options is never a bad thing. That’s where Spell Master comes in. The mod unlocks several spells that are already in the game but are not usable by the player for one reason or another. There are five new spells to look forward to, one of which has two different variants.

The spells that stand out the most are Obliviate, which makes enemies forget they’re in combat, and Confundo, which turns enemies against their allies. Aside from those, you also get an improved version of Diffindo, a version of Stupefy that can be used without casting Protego first, and two versions of Pestis Incendium, both of which are fire-based spells. Unfortunately, the new spells don’t come with unique voiceover, but that was to be expected.

1 NPC Schedule Enhanced

NPC Schedule Extended mod for Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts professors and students tend to feel a bit lifeless outside of quests and classes. This mod attempts to fix that by giving named NPCs more realistic schedules. You can already find NPCs walking around Hogwarts and doing various activities, but their behavior seems a bit random most of the time. Not anymore. Thanks to this mod, NPCs have breakfast together, go to classes, visit Hogmeads on weekends, chill in the common rooms at night, and more.

The biggest highlight of the mod is that it gives NPCs a believable daily classroom schedule. For instance, you can expect Gryffindor students to attend Charms class in the morning and Creatures in the afternoon every Monday. Classes change every day and differ depending on the students’ house. Perhaps even more importantly, NPCs physically travel everywhere they need to go instead of instantly teleporting there. NPC Schedule Enhanced also changes the behavior of certain vendors, who now close their shops at night before opening them again in the morning.
