Long-running MTV fans will remember the glorious days of the late 80s and early 90s when the landmark network still showed music videos around the clock and showcased music based television programming. Of the beloved hits that scrolled along on the TV Guide channel, one fan favorite was Yo! MTV Raps. The U.S. version of the series debuted in 1988 with hosts including Fab 5 Freddy, Doctor Dré, Ed Lover, and T Money. And now, it’s back! Paramount+ has announced that a reboot of the series will hit the streaming platform on May 24 with infamous battle rapper Conceited and renowned deejay DJ Diamond to stand at the head as hosts.

COLLIDER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Conceited and DJ Diamond, along with a slew of recognizable guests, will take audiences on the ultimate journey of modern day hip hop featuring high energy live performances, interviews, and cyphers. Joining the hosts to take the series to new heights will be appearances from names like Freddie Gibbs, IDK, JID, Latto, Saba, Shenseea, Tee Grizzley, and Trina.

Paying homage to those who came before them, a trailer for the upcoming reboot sheds light on the original series with viewers catching glimpses of legendary artists including Snoop Dogg and Run-D.M.C., who both appeared on the breakthrough hit. Introducing the soon-to-be series’ hosts, we’re promised that not only will the show give the main stage to already famous rappers, but will also give those who are on the brink of fame the space to demonstrate their skills.

For fans of the original series or those who came after, but want to catch the unforgettable musical moments, we’re excited to tell you that Paramount+ is about to drop fifty episodes from the archive on May 5. In the trailer, we could spot the likes of icons including Nas, 2Pac, and Method Man leading us to believe the old episodes will feature some of the best. The May 5th drop represents a first for the series which hasn’t been made available for streaming prior to this time – although many of us have scoured YouTube for clips over the years.

The series will be executive produced by Kurt Williamson, Warren Oliver, and Michelle Kenner under the HollandWest Productions banner with Bruce Gillmer and Jennifer Demme representing MTV. Kim Velona is helming production.
