Wizard of Legend 2 Announced, Led by the Developers of Children of Morta

Humble Games just had its recent showcase this May. One of the event’s highlights was the announcement of Wizard of Legend 2. As expected of the showcase, the game is being published by Humble Games itself. On the other hand, the developers will be Dead Mage this time. They are actually the studio that made Children of Morta come to life. Dead Mage does confirm that the original developer, Contingent99, is being consulted and is still tied to the sequel.

So, will you become a legend? What kind of magical hijinks will you get yourself into?

I Am Wizard

Wizard of Legend 2 will have the most ambitious of mages congregate and try to undertake a legendary challenge. Budding legends must prove themselves worthy by journeying to the Floating Lands and obtaining the Chalice of Immortality. Only the most magical of wizards who’ve mastered the elements and chaos will emerge triumphant.

The Floating Lands is an ever-shifting magical construct, enabling a lore-friendly reason for the procedurally generated areas. Each run will not be entirely like the last one, in true roguelike fashion. Wizard of Legend 2 will be a roguelike game at its heart and will require many attempts at the chalice before we can taste the sweet, sweet victory. We can also expect a meta-progression system that will unlock various upgrades and spells that players can make use of in future runs.

While the trailer didn’t show us too many environments that the Floating Lands will feature, we can expect that there will be much more down the line. The original game had tons of unique biomes, ranging from murky swamps, decrepit castles, leafy forests, and other common fantasy tropes. Wizard of Legends 2 has so far just shown off some forests and a desert.

The Wizard of Legend Rises

The game is a dungeon-delver that will have players attempt to become the very best like no one ever was. They must master the elemental forces of Fire, Water, Lightning, Air, and Earth. Just like in other games, each element will have a different theme or focus when wielding it. Fire, for example, will deal raw unmitigated damage. Earth will be unbreakable, protecting us with stone and rock.

Magic in Wizard of Legend 2 is called “Arcana”, which will all usually boil down to offensive spells. These abilities will take many different forms, be it simple projectiles, magic-infused melee strikes, and more. The sky’s the limit, as Wizard of Legend 2 will encourage experimentation by mixing and matching different elements and magic types.

Some upgrades will allow players to cast spells faster, or hit harder. It all depends on the luck of the draw. The original game had over 100 different spells and trinkets that would shake up a playthrough. We don’t know how magic-packed Wizard of Legend 2 will be just yet.

A Change of Perspective

The biggest change that Wizard of Legend 2 will make is that of the art style itself. Wizard of Legend 2 will still retain the colorful and vivid nature of the title but will shift totally from 2D pixel art sprites to 3D characters. The sequel is just as vibrant as its predecessor, though further enhanced by its charming cel-shaded aesthetic. Tones are quite striking in this regard.

Visually, there’s always a lot going on, just like the first game. Magic particles flying in every direction is quite normal for the original game, and more so for the sequel. Wizard of Legend 1 only had local couch-coop for its multiplayer options. The sequel is doubling this number as it will now allow for 4-player online coop. Things will get pretty chaotic.

But do remember that this is an entirely cooperative game. No setting your friends on fire, or casting lightning bolts to smite your allies. This isn’t Magicka.

Yer a Wizard, Larry!

Wizard of Legend 2 doesn’t have a solid release date or price point just yet. The original game was released to the public over 5 years ago, on May 15, 2018th to be precise. It received outstandingly good reviews, as it sits on 14,000 positive reviews on Steam alone. Hopefully, Dead Mage can capture the charm and the elements that made the Original Wizard of Legend quite legendary.
