When it comes to supporting characters in Overwatch 2, Baptiste is the unique one out of the bunch. While his kit does have abilities that aid his teammates in battle by giving out heals, he can also be easily considered to be a DPS hero. With this in mind, he can be used as a hybrid character.

His play style can be considered to resemble Soldier: 76, however in some cases he’s even better than him. If used effectively, Baptiste can be your angel and your devil when it comes to turning the tides of battle. Who wouldn’t want someone that can play both sides of the field?

8/8 Figure Out Your Play Style Early On

Deciding how you want to play Baptiste can vary between matches. Baptiste’s Biotic Launcher is the main weapon that allows him to fire off three-round burst shots at enemies. His secondary fire can lob a healing projectile that can heal himself and his allies. It acts as a splash radius, so you can hit teammates that are way ahead of the pack if you aim it right.

Determining if you want to go long-range or mid-range play style during a fight is solely up to the situation. In general, you should stay within your team since they rely on you for heals. You do however have more room to be flexible considering the range of Baptiste’s alt fire.

7/8 Utilize The High Ground

Finding high ground is something you’ll want to do often as Baptiste as it ties in with his passive ability. If you hold the crouch button down, it allows you to charge up your Exo Boots, making you jump higher than normal. Being on a higher playing field allows you to get a better look at which ally is low on health and lets you pick off enemies easier.

You could also use the boots to ambush enemy snipers that have positioned themselves on high ground and take the area for yourself. As long as you can still heal your teammates of course.

6/8 Effectively Use Your Immortality Field

Considering how useful Baptiste’s Immortality Field is you may have the urge to throw it down whenever you or your team is getting shot at. However, doing so isn’t going to be the right decision to make. The field itself can protect allies from dying, but it can be destroyed before it even has a chance to get set up.

When used right, you’ll be saving lives like it’s nobody’s business. You’ll want to place it ahead of time and somewhere where enemies can’t see it. The radius can travel through walls, but make sure that it’s in the most logical area.

5/8 Only Use Regenerative Burst During Fights

Baptiste’s most useful ability is his Regenerative Burst which allows you to heal yourself and your teammates over time. It’s important to use it when allies are around you as it won’t work on those who are far away from you. It lasts for five seconds and can really pull you out of tough situations.

It’s better to use it during fights than after since you can always use your alt-fire to do that, plus it doesn’t have a cooldown, unlike the Regenerative Burst. With this in mind, it only makes Batiste that valuable as a support character in Overwatch 2.

4/8 Make Sure Your Ultimate Is Visible To Everyone

Buffing teammates is Baptiste’s specialty, literally. His ultimate Amplification Matrix creates a little window that boosts the damage to ally projectiles that pass through it. Not only that, but it also amplifies healing projectiles as well, granting more health. You’ll want to use it in the middle of a fight in the center of a battlefield if you can.

It’s important to have your teammates with them, so they can also take advantage of the ultimate as the effects of it applies to them too. Using it by yourself would only prove to be a waste of time.

3/8 Be Cautious Of Your Cooldowns

Since all of Baptiste’s abilities are in relation to healing, you can only imagine what his cooldowns look like. His Regenerative Burst has a 15 seconds cooldown and the Immortality Field has a whopping 25-second cooldown. Considering how he can increase a team’s chance of survivability by a lot, it only makes sense why they’re that long.

You’ll have to make smart decisions when you decide to use an ability. Access the situation first and decide if it’s needed. Keep in mind you always have you’re alt-fire for health. In the end, if you’re on a cooldown, just try your best to stay alive and focus on healing your team.

2/8 Combo Your Ultimate With Others

The Amplification Matrix is better effective when you combo it with other heroes on your team. A perfect example of this in motion would be with characters such as Bastion, Soldier: 76, Ash, and many other DPS heroes. Even Reinhardt can use this to his advantage with his Firestrike ability.

Support characters like Moira and Ana can also shoot through the field giving their allies a greater boost in health. It’s all about who you’re with when it comes to Baptiste. With the right squad together mixed in with the healing capabilities, you’ll rarely see yourselves knocking on Death’s door.

1/8 Remember, You’re Support Before DPS

Staying alive is a must for someone like Baptiste. Given that he’s a support character that can play like a DPS hero you’ll have the urge to go headfirst into battle. Don’t forget that you’re there to provide for your teammates.

Given that his whole kit is nothing but healing and support items, you’ll notice a shift in battle when you’re taken out of the picture. Communicate with your team and let them know your status or if you have heals readily for them. You play a big part in determining if they’re successful or not.
