The Top News Stories From November 14-20

Another week at DualShockers, and we’ve seen two hotly anticipated titles that couldn’t be more different, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet and Warzone 2.0, come out in the same week. And as much contrast as there may be between the two games and their fanbases, they’ve been able to find two points of common ground with their games — they’re very buggy, but they’re still a lot of fun.

Of the two, Pokemon’s technical problems have definitely been the more entertaining, as we could watch that meme-worthy, sleepy little Fuecoco fall down to the bottom of that pond a million times and not get bored. Still, the games’ performance has a lot of fans irked and wondering just how much more the Switch can handle from modern games.

DUALSHOCKERS VIDEO OF THE DAY

Meanwhile Warzone’s problems are far more frustrating than funny, with players seemingly locked out of the game because they didn’t purchase Modern Warfare II (which was never a prerequisite) and some players in the game getting an unfair advantage by going completely invisible. But fans of the battle royale are still having fun with it, and they’ve celebrated with a bang, or rather, the detonation of the game’s first nuke.

Meanwhile, in Somerville …

While those two long-running franchises work out their issues with their newest titles, Somerville also made its debut this week, and, as with the others, it’s got performance issues. But gaming enthusiasts looking for something a little further off the beaten path still might want to check it out, at least for its stunning visual appeal.

And while the debut title from indie developer Jumpship hasn’t shaken the world with its release, it has at least turned some heads, including those in the gaming industry. If it hadn’t it wouldn’t have been quickly bought out by Swedish game publisher Thunderful, and it’ll be exciting to see what the publisher will be able to put forth with its newly acquired talent.

Two New MMOs On The Rise?

Turning to the future, we’ve received news this week of two new MMO projects sure to bring gamers together in days to come. Firstly, we’ve seen a fresh new trailer for ArcheAge II, confirming the MMORPG’s upcoming release on both consoles and PC. We don’t have an estimated release date yet, but its developers are aiming for somewhere in 2024, so it’ll be a while before we can take advantage of its fantasy guild-based living and customization options.

On the other end of the MMO spectrum, NCSoft has announced its plans for Project LLL, an MMO shooter set in an open-world setting. In a genre overrun with battle royales, NCSoft is trying to take a different approached to shooters, bringing with it uninterrupted movement across the world and, oddly enough for a multiplayer shooter, an emphasis on storytelling.
