An all-new miniseries from BioWare, Dragon Age: The Missing, is coming in January 2023. The comics will follow two adventurers from the Dragon Age franchise in a dangerous new setting.

On Sunday, BioWare kicked off Dragon Age Day 2022 celebrations alongside fans of the hit series. The publisher featured commissioned art of Dragon Age characters, held a giveaway on social media, and shared an exclusive short story. With fans eager for more Dragon Age content, BioWare took the chance to advertise Dragon Age: The Missing, which was first announced in October. The upcoming miniseries is not BioWare’s first collaboration with Dark Horse Comics, as previous series include The Silent Grove and Those Who Speak.

Dragon Age: The Missing will span four issues, focusing on the journey of Varric Tethras, a dwarven rogue and storyteller, and Lace Harding, an Inquisition scout, as they search for a former friend. The two explore beneath Marnas Pell in the Tevinter Imperium and venture into the Deep Roads, where they may face horrific darkspawn. The miniseries serves as a prequel to Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, the upcoming fourth installment in the franchise. BioWare has also revealed the first issue’s cover art, which features Varric wielding his iconic crossbow.

The Dark Horse Comics website reveals more information about the first issue, including a precise publication date and the names of the creators. Dragon Age: The Missing #1 will be available on January 25, 2023. Dark Horse Comics credits writer George Mann, artist Kieran McKeown, colorist Mike Atiyeh, and cover artist Matt Taylor.

Dragon Age fans can now wishlist or pre-order the print edition of Dragon Age: The Missing #1 at Dark Horse Comics. The issue is priced at $3.99, but is currently on a 30% discount. The final order cutoff date is January 2.

Like the miniseries, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is set in the Tevinter Imperium, an area that has not been explored in-depth in previous franchise entries. On Dragon Age Day, BioWare released an in-game cinematic from the upcoming title, but also hinted that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is still “deep in development.” In the meantime, perhaps Dragon Age: This Missing can entertain fans with beloved characters and provide some exciting foreshadowing for the events of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.
