Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid was honoured with a Special Award at the 2023 TRIC Awards, and the 52-year-old took a swipe at Nigel Farage.

During Wednesday’s instalment of the ITV news programme, her co-host Martin Lewis revealed he could “play tunes” with his ears and Susanna demanded to see what he meant.

After he performed an unusual rendition of Happy Birthday by hitting his right ear with his hand, Susanna exclaimed: “And that is why we win awards like this, that is why we have special recognition.”

Entertainment reporter Richard Arnold quipped: “It’s that gripping television, that’s why we win.”

Susanna then took a swipe at GB News presenter Nigel, telling ITV viewers: “Bet you can’t do that Nigel Farage, can you? Right.”

“Feel free to try it at home during this next segment,” Richard quipped before Martin warned people not to damage their eardrums.

During this year’s TRIC Awards, which were held on Tuesday in London, former UKIP leader Nigel was booed and heckled as he took to the stage to collect his award.

Laughing off the abuse, Nigel told the crowd: “The approval of your audience is the ultimate accolade.

“GB News set out to be the people’s channel and I’m incredibly proud of that. The establishment media doesn’t always like it – we’re not for them – but this award shows that the people do.”

He added: “To me, good current affairs presenting is about bringing together people with very different opinions, and then having a warm, grown-up conversation with them.”

Other winners at the event included former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan who now hosts his own show on TalkTV.

Piers won the accolade for Interview of the Year for his world exclusive with footballing icon Cristiano Ronaldo.

While accepting the gong, he unexpectedly told the audience: “I want to thank Meghan Markle because, if you think about it, without her contribution to my career I would never have gone to TalkTV.”

“I would never have been standing here with this award,” the broadcaster added.

Piers famously quit Good Morning Britain following a row over the Duchess of Sussex after her tell-all Oprah Winfrey interview in March 2021.

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays between 6am and 9am.
