Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster has commented on how she believes superhero movies are a “phase,” and one that has drawn on too long for her liking. Speaking to Elle Magazine, the Silence of the Lambs actress said she’s observed a number of phases in Hollywood since she first got famous as a child actor in the 1970s, and she believes superhero movies are just the latest one.

“It’s a phase. It’s a phase that’s lasted a little too long for me, but it’s a phase, and I’ve seen so many different phases. Hopefully people will be sick of it soon,” she said.

Foster said she is fond of the superhero movies Iron Man and Black Panther, as well as The Matrix. “I marvel at those movies, and I’m swept up in the entertainment of it,” she said.

However, Foster said she didn’t become an actor to make these kinds of movies. “And those movies don’t change my life. Hopefully there’ll be room for everything else,” she said.

Foster won her two Oscars for The Accused and The Silence of the Lambs. Her next major production is the next season of HBO’s True Detective in 2024.

In other news about superhero movies, Batman director Christopher Nolan said big blockbusters are necessary in Hollywood to help studios fund smaller, more original projects. Director Edgar Wright, meanwhile, recently said major Hollywood franchises need breaks to help build anticipation. Additionally, Disney CEO Bob Iger has admitted the company has made too many sequels.
