Sega’s first VR game is a new twist on a classic favorite

Sega announced its first VR game during the Meta showcase, and it’s Samba de Amigo VR, complete with online multiplayer and more. Samba de Amigo will launch on Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro sometime in fall 2023 for $29.99, and Sega is offering some pre-order bonuses as well.

One of the pre-order bonuses is a replica Meta Quest 2 set your character can wear in the game, which replaces the maracas with two VR controllers.

Samba de Amigo VR features 40 songs both classic and modern, including Culture Club’s “Karma Chameleon,” “I Really Like You” from Carly Rae Jespen, and Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name.” Sega will add more songs to the game in post-launch DLC, but didn’t mention when the first waves will land or how many tracks each will add.

You can groove alone or with friends both locally and online in World Party Mode, compete in challenge leaderboards, or take a break from dancing and check out some of Samba de Amigo’s minigames and other challenges.

It’s a big year for Sega’s dancing monkey, over two decades since he first made his debut on the Sega Dreamcast. Alongside Samba’s VR outing, Nintendo Switch owners are getting Samba de Amigo: Party Central in August 2023, complete with Bakamitai – without Kazuma Kiryu, unfortunately – and other classic Sega songs.
