Resident Evil 4 Remake Smashes 6 Million Copies Sold; Gold Edition Releases This Week

The remake of Resident Evil 4 is nearing sales of 6.5 million copies, with Capcom announcing that 6.48 million units have been purchased since its release in 2023. The reimagining of the 2005 iconic survival horror game garnered significant interest, given that Resident Evil 4 is one of the more memorable in the franchise. The remake was met with high praise upon its 2023 debut, achieving sales of 3 million copies within just two days.

A Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition will be releasing this week on February 9th which bundles together the main game and the Separate Ways store DLC plus the Extra DLC pack. The extra DLC Pack includes cosmetic items such as costumes, music and weapons that previously came with the Deluxe Edition.

REliving the Nightmare

It was last year in March when RE4 Remake has already sold over 3 million copies worldwide. The number now doubling is no small feat. We praised the Remake in our review for its improvements over the original and adding some REfreshed content that any Resident Evil fan would enjoy. Scoring a 9 doesn’t come lightly, as the remake does enough to feel like new but keeps the essence of what made the original great.

Separate Ways DLC later released (which was no real surprise) which expands the game’s experience this time playing as Ada Wong. This originally release in 2005, staring the bombshell Ada from the moment where Leon and Wong split up.

RE Rumours

According to a subreddit, a known leaker called Dusk Golem has shared that Capcom has roughly five games in development including Resident Evil 9. If the rumour is to be believed there is a lot of RE games coming our way. Previously Dusk Golem had shared info on a few unannounced projects including RE8 Village, the Silent Hill 2 Remake and the recently released Silent: Hill The Short Message. Of course, with any rumour take it with a pinch of salt until Capcom confirms the existence of these potential projects.

It wouldn’t be too surprising that Capcom would be making another RE entry after the success of RE8 Village which took a whole new spin on the survival horror following more supernatural and vampiress characters. The DLC closed out with the Shadows of Rose expansion which revisited the haunted mansion and culminated in the end of the Winters chapter.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is currently available on platforms PS5, PS4, Xbox Series and PC. The Gold Edition will be released on February 9th.
