Hades 2 is officially available on Steam and Epic Store in early access format, and if the news catches you by surprise, don’t worry: that’s because Supergiant Games hadn’t announced anything about it to the public. The highly anticipated rogue-like comes with a price tag of $29.99 without giving people the opportunity to pre-order it at their convenience, and although it might sound a bit risky, it has turned out so well that it’s currently occupying the top spot in the platform’s best-seller list as of the time of writing.
Hades 2 Becomes Top Seller On Steam
Unfortunately, Valve’s API only organizes its best-selling games based on the amount of money they are earning and is not transparent about the number of copies sold, so we don’t know how many have jumped into action since the early hours of Hades 2’s life; but according to this metric, we do know that it’s generating even more revenue than titans like Counter-Strike 2 or PUBG.
The First Hades Has Been Revived
The first game has also been revived in recent weeks, especially in the last few days, because it’s currently 66% off until May 13th on Steam, and since yesterday, it has been impacted by the momentum of Hades 2’s early access release. The surge in players of the first Hades began when the technical test of the game was announced in mid-April. At that time, it had an average of around 4,500 players.
By the beginning of May, Hades had an average of close to 7,000 simultaneous players, and in the last few hours, it has surpassed 23,500. It’s worth remembering that this game initially launched exclusively on the Epic Games Store in 2018 and came to Steam a year later, also in early access.
A New Protagonist
will remain in early access until at least the end of 2024, as Supergiant Games considers it beneficial for the final product to take into account players’ feedback, which also helps ensure that gameplay and narrative are balanced. Hades II maintains the gameplay of the first game and the setting in Greek mythology but reserves some surprises.
The new protagonist, the princess of the Underworld Melinoe, has new weapons like daggers and a staff and omega attacks, different for each weapon.
