Bethesda Softworks and Arkane Austin concluded today’s Xbox Developer Direct showcase with a presentation of Redfall, the long-awaited cooperative first-person vampire shooter coming to Xbox and PC in late spring.
The video features Arkane Austin’s studio director Harvey Smith, creative director Ricardo Bare, and business director Susan Kath, who passionately share their excitement for the game’s release. “Redfall is the biggest, most ambitious game we have ever made,” Bare said of the title, which can be accessed in single-player mode or up to four-player co-op.
Using RPG and FPS gameplay elements, players will choose between four playable hero characters, each with their own unique and customizable abilities, facing off against enemy vampires and the human cultists who are helping them to spread. The game will include an arsenal of conventional and supernatural weapons, from solar light-emitting lamps to shotguns or long range sniper rifles and, of course, stakes.
Players will navigate their way through the immersive open world and take out vampires to take back the streets one neighborhood at a time. Vampires will come in different varieties, such as The Shroud, a being that can blanket the surrounding area in darkness and phase through the ground to evade your attacks. Safe houses, such as farms and firehouses, will provide missions, side quests, and a place to recover from battles. Killing vampires on one of these missions could lead to a showdown with a powerful rook, and each neighborhood is dominated by an underboss vampire.
For a project with a history going back to 2018, it would appear that Redfall is a production that spared no expense. The visuals are breathtaking, even if the vampire hunting needs to be done in darker areas. Weapons and character ability trees should look familiar enough to fans of the role-playing or FPS genres. All that and the voiceover cast will give players plenty to sink their teeth into when this game releases at the start of May.
