Pokemon GO players may encounter a shiny version of Tapu Koko in five-star raids and Helioptile in the wild.

Niantic has provided new details on Pokemon GO’s last event of the month, Crackling Voltage, which will introduce the shiny version of two electro-type Pokemon, Tapu Koko and Helioptile. The upcoming event also features a new Special Research Story dedicated to Giovanni, which will be available to claim until the end of Season 9: Mhytical Wishes on March 1, 2023.

Pokemon GO’s Crackling Voltage event will run from Friday, January 27, at 10:00 a.m. until Sunday, February 5, at 11:59 p.m. local time. As players might expect from a high-voltage event, electric-type Pokemon will appear more frequently in the wild, including Tapu Koko and Helioptile. Trainers will participate in new five-star raids to expand their Pokedex, complete research tasks to earn a variety of rewards, and learn more about Giovanni’s story in a Special Research to receive a Super Rocket Radar.

If you’re lucky enough, you will encounter Grubbin, Ferroseed, Blitzle, Stunky, and four new Pokemon more frequently in the wild during the upcoming event. Some Trainers might also encounter Beldum and Dedenne during the Crackling Voltage event. Do note that the Shiny Tapu Koko won’t appear in the wild randomly, as the legendary Pokemon will make its debut in five-star raids where Trainers may also encounter Registeel.

Tapu Koko will be waiting for Trainers in raids from January 25, at 10:00 a.m. to February 1, at 10:00 a.m. local time, while Registeel will be available to catch between February 1, at 10:00 a.m. and February 8, at 10:00 a.m. local time. Registeel caught during the event will know the Charged Attack Zap Cannon.

The event also features two Mega Raids where players might encounter Gengar and Aerodactyl in specific time periods. Mega Gengar will appear between February 1 and February 8, while Mega Aerodactyl will wreak havoc in raids from January 25 until February 1. Moreover, a roster of Pokemon will hatch from 7 km eggs, including Skarmory, Galarian Stunfisk, Dedenne, and Helioptile. Bear in mind that Helioptile hatched from these Eggs will have a greater chance of being a Shiny Pokémon than Helioptile found in the wild.

A new Special Research Story for Giovanni will be available as part of the Team Go Rocket Takeover, beginning on February 1, at 12:00 a.m. and ending on February 5, 11:59 p.m. local time. Team GO Rocket will also appear more frequently at PokeStops and in balloons during the event.
