Maryland viewers sent into frenzy as Grease icon appears in ITV drama | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV
Maryland centres around sisters Becca (played by Suranne Jones) and Rosaline (Eve Best) who find out their mother’s body has been discovered on the Isle of Man.
The sisters have grown apart over the years but as they join together under tragic circumstances, they learn their mother was living a secret double life.
All the while, the estranged sisters are keeping their own secrets from one another.
However, as the opening episode of the three-part series got underway, viewers were left distracted by American actress Stockard Channing’s appearance.
Stockard is perhaps best known for playing Betty Rizzo in the 1978 hit musical film Grease.

Her Maryland character called Cathy is a mysterious figure who gives Becca and Rosaline some answers about their late mother.
Her role sent viewers into a frenzy, with Alex tweeting a picture of a man pointing which was captioned: “Everyone when Rizzo appeared on the screen!”
Meanwhile, a viewer called Dan penned: “Rizzo looks good again…#Maryland.”
Gareth Davies remarked: “Have I just seen Rizzo from Grease on Maryland? #maryland.”

Andy quipped: “Rizzo is ageing well and still hiding the Hickey from Kinnicky #Maryland.”
Jo commented: “Not every day you see Rizzo pop up in an ITV drama is it? #Maryland.”

As the opening episode concluded, Becca and her sister started seeing eye to eye as they came to terms with their mother’s double life.
What will they learn about each other as well as their family as the final two instalments unfold?
An ITV spokesperson said of Maryland: “A moving, funny and, at times, difficult exploration of family dynamics, Maryland is an intricately observed relationship drama with a love story between two sisters at its heart.”
The following episodes of Maryland will air on Tuesday and Wednesday at 9pm and they are also available to watch on ITVX.
