The armor in Gray Zone Warfare is tier-based, but the game doesn’t explain fully what each means. If you’re confused, look no further as this guide explains the armor tiers in Gray Zone Warfare to give you a better understanding of which is best.

How do armor tiers work in Gray Zone Warfare?

The armor in Gray Zone Warfare tiers corresponds with the real-life NIJ armor protection levels. If you aren’t familiar with the NIJ, it stands for the National Institute of Justice. Below is the order (from weakest to strongest) of all the armor tiers in Gray Zone Warfare.

  • Level IIA
  • Level II
  • Level IIIA
  • Level III
  • Level IV

In other words, the weakest armor tier is Level IIA, while the strongest is Level IV. I know, it can be very complicated for beginners. I was confused at first until players explained it to the community on the game’s Reddit page.

What does a plus sign in armor mean in Gray Zone Warfare?

There is a chance that you’ll acquire armor with a plus sign after the tier, for example Level IIA+. It’s important to know that the plus sign resembles a slight upgrade compared to the armor piece without the plus sign. One way to look at it is Level IIA+ is stronger than Level IIA. That said, Level IIA+ is still weaker than Level II.

Now that you understand how the armor tiers work in Gray Zone Warfare, you’ll know which to equip or avoid. Hopefully, this knowledge increases you and your friends chances of survival on the battlefield!
