Square Enix has set a 33% discount on all editions of Forspoken until the end of this month. While the game was released only 50 days ago, you can now grab it on PlayStation 5 for a significantly lower price than the launch time.

The standard edition of Forspoken now costs $46.89, while the digital deluxe edition is priced at $63.69, which is even lower than the standard edition’s launch price. These offers are exclusive to PlayStation and are not available for the PC version of the game at the time of writing.

Forspoken had quite a rough launch back in January this year. The game didn’t receive favorable reviews from the media after its launch, and the initial technical issues frustrated fans on both PC and consoles, as the game’s visuals were not even close to a current-gen title.

Square Enix recently revealed that Forspoken was not a financial success for the company, which resulted in the closure of its developer, Luminous Productions, and its merger with the internal studios of Square Enix. The current PlayStation discount on Forspoken seems to be another indication of the game’s poor financial performance, as it is quite unexpected for a big-budget title to receive over 30% off less than two months after its release.

In a recent statement, the president of Square Enix Yosuke Matsuda told investors that the sales of Forspoken “have been lackluster,” and if the company’s February and March releases don’t do well either, they might face a considerable downside risk in the earnings of the fiscal year 2023. According to unofficial reports, Square Enix has spent over $100 million on Forspoken, which is quite a lot of money to be recouped by the game’s sales.

Forspoken was not supposed to have any post-launch expansions, but with the underwhelming performance of the game, it remains unknown what would be the future of this new IP. The main focus of Square Enix at the moment is Final Fantasy XVI, which is the next flagship title of the company. Final Fantasy XVI is yet another exclusive title for PlayStation 5 coming out later this year.
