Exodus Will Have Multiple Endings Reaching “Years, Decades and Even Centuries”

The time-inducing space RPG Exodus which was revealed last month will have multiple endings that will impact time spanning “centuries”. Through time dilation which was teased in the debut trailer, characters’ memories can be affected. Developer Archetype Entertainment is a new studio under James Ohlen, Chad Robertson and Chris King. These veterans share experience working on some of the best RPGs such as the original Baldur’s Gate, KOTOR and Jade Empire.

You may have noticed a distinct Mass Effect flavour throughout the Exodus announcement trailer. In this RPG, the story will explore time dilation which in turn will affect the endings of the game. There are multiple endings confirmed, just how many are unknown. However, through a recent stint of short Q&A videos, Ohlen shared they’ve put a lot of work into the different endings. One thing is for certain, time dilation will have an extensive reach into the “choices you make” and this is the “core of the game”.

Decisions can impact not just decades but centuries

Through Space and Time

In case you missed the intro trailer, the core concepts of the game seem to coincide with the premise of the movie Interstellar (it even borrows its main actor Matthew McConaughey who is debuting in his first game). Time moves differently through space, which could impact the main character’s family or even an entire civilisation. The impact of your choices will not just affect the immediate future, but “results of those decisions over the course of years, decades and even centuries”.

The game will focus on third-person combat, include fantasy themes, be based on a Centauri Cluster and even a hint at alien romance. There’s no release date for this whirlwind sci-fi but it will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The development team are setting the bar high, using recent games such as Horizon: Zero Dawn series, Tomb Raider and even The Last of Us as comparisons in terms of quality.

The Archetype studio is made up of veterans from a number of studios who have worked on games such as Dragon Age: Origins, Halo 4, Mass Effect and Star Wars: The Old Republic. If the trailer is anything to go by, it’s going to action action-orientated with some deep storytelling.
