Don’t Starve Releases Surprise Tune-Up Patch With Massive Bug Fixes

The update is only available on PC for now.

Klei has surprised fans of Don’t Starve, the classic single-player survival game, with a hefty tune-up patch. Currently, the long-awaited patch has only been released in beta on PC, but will receive a full release at a later date.

The official Klei account shared the unexpected news in a tweet, including a link to a rundown of the updates on the Klei forums. The patch implements various changes and bug fixes to the base game and all of its DLCs. The developer provides a key of acronyms, such as “SW” for Shipwrecked and “HAM” for Hamlet, to help players distinguish which DLCs are affected by each change or bug fix.

Numerous bugs are addressed in the tune-up patch, from animation and spawn adjustments to attack range and damage changes. In Reign of Giants, Deerclops will spawn later in the winter. In Hamlet, Shipwrecked, and Reign of Giants, mobs that inflict reflective damage will not do so when hit with a ranged attack. In the base game and all DLCs, tamed beefalo animations have been fixed and ghosts will not deal damage towards mandrakes or while dying. Countless more improvements to creatures and objects have been made in the patch, as listed in the forum post.

The patch rundown also includes notes for modders, pointing out added features and new files. In Hamlet, icon_atlas can be used in the multi-tab and the AddStategraphPostInit function includes SGdungbeetle. Klei has made more mod-friendly data definitions, which can be accessed in trawlnet_loot_defs, slotmachine_loot_defs, pig_shop_defs, and pig_trades_defs.

Klei encourages players who run into issues in Don’t Starve to report them in a new bug tracker. Reports should mention which DLCs were enabled when the bug was encountered. Many players have already made good use of the bug tracker, reporting problems with animations, models, and sounds.

According to Klei, the patch will remain in beta on PC until it is deemed ready for release on all platforms. Players can expect another quality-of-life update for Don’t Starve to release after this beta. However, Klei has not yet announced when the next patch will arrive.
