David Beckham has revealed that the director of his Netflix documentary wasn’t pleased at his interruption of his wife, which became a viral moment.

Beckham, which came out last year, features a moment where the former footballer interrupts his wife Victoria as she speaks about her background.

After saying that both her and David both came from “hard-working families,” the Spice Girls singer and fashion designer claimed that they were “very working class”. David can then be heard repeatedly telling her to “be honest” as the camera points to him peeking his head round the door.

Despite Victoria responding saying “I am being honest”, David persists, asking her to share the car her dad drove her to school in.

“One answer. What car did your dad drive you to school in?” he asked, as Victoria explained “It’s not a simple answer.”

He repeats the question, before Victoria eventually responds, “In the ‘80s my dad had a Rolls Royce.”

David replied: “Thank you,” before closing the door.

The moment became a viral meme, and the couple even created an Uber Eats advert which aired during the Super Bowl, which features Victoria wearing a T-shirt that read: “My dad had a Rolls-Royce”.

However, David has revealed that the documentary’s director Fisher Stevens wasn’t happy when the moment occurred

As reported by The Telegraph, David explained how the crew thought he was out of the house, but he was “in the kitchen making a coffee before I went to the office”.

It was there that he heard Victoria’s interview, and decided to intervene. “I put the set headphones on and all of a sudden I heard my wife go, ‘Well, we’re down to earth’. And I was like, ‘No, no, no’.”

“As soon as I heard her say ‘We’re working class’, I stuck my head in and I was like, ‘Be honest’.”

He then explained how Stevens was “very angry with me over that”.

Stevens, who appeared alongside Beckham at the Emmys For Your Consideration Event in Los Angeles weighed in, explaining that they had scheduled the interview for that time “because David was supposedly out and she could be free to say what she wants”.

He explained: “And then he showed up and I was quite upset. I was like, ‘Get him out of here’. But it actually turned out to be brilliant.”

However, Stevens admits that the moment did make for entertaining television, saying: “It worked out. Thank God the cameraman caught David”.

He also shared how he thought immediately after the moment that it was a good scene, saying at the time to the producer Michael Harte: “I think we have some gold”.

In other news, David Beckham is reportedly suing Mark Wahlberg, accusing his fitness company of “fraudulent conduct”.
