Coronation Street fans point out ‘flaw’ in Paul Foreman illness story | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Coronation Street fans will probably be aware that soap favourite Paul Foreman (played by Peter Ash) is set to be at the centre of an emotional storyline that will see him diagnosed with MND (put illness in here please). The ITV soap character doesn’t yet know about his condition, but as he had to arrange more medical appointments in the latest episode, his main concern was not earning money and being able to support his family. Some viewers weren’t convinced and pointed out he would be entitled to help in real life.

Paul has been desperate to return to work and earn money after being injured when Carla Conner (Alison King) hit him with her van, but it turns out he has something more sinister going on.

Paul has been counting on getting money out of Carla as compensation to cover his expenses.

The worried family man went to great lengths to try to do so but was soon informed by a doctor his injury was nothing to do with the crash.

Immediately, Paul was worried sick about what he was going to do about money as he still couldn’t work.

He quickly added: “But Carla still hit me, didn’t she?” but Dee-dee pointed out that wasn’t keeping him from work.

“We will still be able to claim something, won’t we? I’ll get some sort of compensation, right?” he pleaded with Dee-Dee.

His friend’s expression made it clear however that this would no longer be an option.

Many fans were left confused by the focus of the storyline, with some noting some details have been ignored.

Twitter user @Zombiechick1967 wrote: “Paul will get benefits, that’s what they’re there for! #Corrie #CoronationStreet.”

@MrWhite1972 added: “This is stupid, he could get housing benefit and sick money #Corrie.”

“Why doesn’t Paul get sickness benefits for a start?  #Corrie,” @bouquetcelia penned.

@tmoraitauthor added: “Paul is still entitled to some compensation from Carla to be fair #Corrie.”

Others fumed over the fact that Paul was able to arrange immediate GP appointments.

@wendi64 remarked: “Referral from GP for neurologist then text message the following day from the hospital offering an appointment! I can hardly believe it! Oh, hang on a minute did I say this was on #coronationstreet?!”

@keynshamkid shared: “#corrie I want to move to Wethersfield. Only one doctor but you can get a same-day appointment whenever you need one and hospital appointments happen the day after you are referred.”

Coronation Street continues on Monday at 8pm on ITV.
