Recently, Capcom released the next-gen versions of Resident Evil 7 and the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3. An issue arose when the next-gen patches increased hardware requirements for users on PC, only they found rolling back to the old versions wasn’t allowed.

The biggest issue with the new updates came with the requirement that users needed graphics cards that supported DirectX 12, rather than just 11. Numerous users needed more powerful graphics card as well. Furthermore, the new patches also naturally broke the many mods available for the three Resident Evil games.

At the time, the only way to avoid these problems was unfortunately to just disable updates entirely. Capcom’s original post regarding the updates noted there would be no way to rollback the patches if one were to update their games. Fortunately that seems to have changed:

“Due to overwhelming response from the Steam community, we’ve reactivated the previous version that does not include ray tracing and enhanced 3D audio,” Capcom said in a new update.

Now players will be able to use the older version which don’t contain any of the upgrades and allows DirectX 11. This is done through the Steam’s beta option, where one simply needs to head into settings and select the “dx11_non-rt” version to use it. The linked version explaining this is for Resident Evil 2 remake, but this option is available for all three games.
