Erebus is the first dungeon of Hades 2, comprising enemies that range from easy to difficult. To make your trip through Erebus easier, here’s a Hades 2 guide on the best tips to remember and how to beat Headmistress Hecate.

Hades 2: Best tips to beat Erebus

Erebus has a lot of unique qualities about it that can grant you victory if you stay sharp. You’ll find an abundance of enemies, Silver, and interesting terrain effects that can aid you on your way through. Here are some tips that I’ve used to get through Erebus easily:

  1. Use the Witch’s Staff weapon. Many enemies in Erebus have mid-range attacks that can hit you if you’re too close, like the screaming enemies who can damage you if you’re in their radius. I found this to be the best weapon for tackling most enemies since it kept me out of harm’s way.
  2. Take advantage of the Terrain. You’ll find plenty of trees throughout Erebus that can damage enemies. If you break the trees towards enemies it’ll inflict a good amount of damage.
  3. Wear the right Keepsake. Once you’re able to give gifts, characters will gift you back a Keepsake to wear. I recommend the Evil Eye (from Nemesis) or the Silver Wheel (from Hecate).
    • Evil Eye: Deal 20% damage to the last foe that vanquished you.
    • Silver Wheel: After you use Magick, restore it over 3 Sec., up to a total of 1000 this night.

Hades 2: How to beat Headmistress Hecate

The first boss you’ll encounter to end the region of Erebus in Hades 2 is Hecate, but how can you beat her? The Headmistress has plenty of fancy moves that can throw you off if you aren’t careful. Here are some important tips for taking on Hecate.

First off, you want to prepare yourself by getting some good Boons before you face Hecate. I recommend a Boon for your normal attack, your Special, and your Cast. Anything that can deal extra damage or slow Hecate down is good, I had a Boon from Hestia that allowed my Cast to inflict burning damage, and you could also go for one of Demeter’s Boons that can freeze enemies.

I used the Witch’s Staff as my weapon since it’s great for long-ranged attacks so you don’t have to stand so close to Hecate. At the start of the fight, Hecate will send out a circle that expands to a certain point and then shrinks. I’d advise you to create a damaging Cast on her before you run out of the way, waiting for this attack to shrink down to go after Hecate again.

Hecate will also shield herself and summon enemies while also bringing damaging circles to follow you wherever you step. These circles take time to affect you, so don’t worry too much about dodging them and focus on eliminating all the minions. This will drop Hecate’s shield and bring along the next attack.

When Hecate creates clones of herself, you’ll know which is the real one when it doesn’t fade to green after attacking it. Once you find the real Hecate you’ll have some time to inflict damage before she changes the attack.

Can you avoid Hecate’s sheep attack in Hades 2?

Midway through the fight Hecate will throw a curse at you to turn you into a sheep. This seems to be unavoidable, so dodging won’t work. Once you’re a sheep you have to avoid getting hit by her minions while dodging out of the way of the continuous circular attacks on the ground.

Never stop moving and continue to run in the same direction to avoid getting hit. Eventually, Hecate will be defeated and you can move on to Oceanus, the next dungeon region.

How to defeat a Root-Stalker in Hades 2

The typical mini-boss you’ll encounter in Erebus is the Root-Stalker which has a companion root to deal some extra damage. You’ll want to focus on the root to get rid of that first, but wait until it pops up from underground when near the Root-Stalker. Placing a Cast to hit both of them can kill two birds with one stone.

The most annoying attack of a Root-Stalker is when it aims a barrage of thorns at you. I advise you to spin in a circle to avoid the thorns but run closest to the center nearest the enemy. If you’re too far away you’ll easily get hit with the thorns, but the closer you are the faster you can run out of its range.

They’ll also place down a set of brown roots which can heavily slow you down. You should avoid running over these roots altogether and wait until they despawn. Keep at it and eventually, the Root-Stalker will fall.

With Hecate defeated, you’re ready to put your Cinder to good use and move on to Oceanus.
