Atlas Fallen Gameplay Trailer Reveals Explosive, Fast-Paced Combat

Our favorite Sand-Based Action-RPG, Atlas Fallen has just received its first official gameplay tease. The footage was about one and a half minutes long but also contained some story segments.

Combat itself was perhaps 45 seconds, but each was quite exciting.

Too Much Sand

The trailer starts out with an ominous villain’s voice taunting us, the player. Apparently, people of our kind have already faced this unnamed villain, and it only led to our ruin. The world of Atlas Fallen has humanity under the whims of the corrupted gods. We are at their oppressive mercy and are forced to live in a sand-hewn world.

Things Get Intense

Things Get Intense

Where things get interesting, is when we get a hold of a magical gauntlet. With this weapon, we are able to harness magical abilities and amazing attacks. Atlas Fallen features extremely fast-paced action combat, reminiscent of things like Darksiders or even last year’s God of War Ragnarok. It is more “Horizon Zero Dawn” and “Forspoken” though than it is a soulslike such as Elden Ring.

An Open and Sandy World to Explore

That isn’t negative in any way, however, as what the game does, it does well. We will get to face off against a huge number of different sand beasts, such as massive demons, menacing fliers, or even mutated insects.

Both enemies and the actual game world are done on a massive scale. Foes tower over us, looking quite ominous and dangerous. Their attacks are also larger than life as they can take up the entire screen.

Atlas Fallen Reforged

The player character won’t start with all of the amazing abilities right from the get-go. They will need to be constantly upgrading the magical Gauntlet, restoring it to its peak efficiency. Doing so will require players to collect Essence and Shards, two resources that can be infused together and enhance an item’s magical properties.

Quite a Pretty Gauntlet

Combat will also be fluid once the player unlocks the Gauntlet’s ability to transform into different forms. Atlas Fallen’s Gauntlet will be able to convert itself into three specific forms, the Dunecleaver, the Sandwhip, and the Knuckledust.

The Dunecleaver will be the heaviest of the three. It specializes in dealing massive damage with an even larger impact. Attacks will be different depending on the Dunecleaver’s specific shape as well. It can become an axe that will deal sweeping strikes all around you, or even a hammer for larger and more focused damage.

Next is the Sandwhip, which has the highest speed compared to the other two weapon forms. You can make use of the sword shape’s quick and stinging strikes, or even the wide sweeps of the whip shape. The Sandwhip also specializes in building up momentum in combat, becoming stronger and stronger the more hits you land on your foes.

Last is the Knuckledust, a fist-type weapon. This weapon shines in dishing out a consistent stream of damage while also building up momentum. The more you hit, the more arms you grow, giving you even more damage output.

The World of Dunes

Being an open-world game, Atlas Fallen will not be purely about combat. Of course, the world will have tons of exploration involved, and you will be given many abilities to make traversal quite entertaining.

Run Away!

Players can use Essence to Air Dash, propelling themselves in various directions. This should enhance your mobility tenfold, especially since you can easily choose what you will crash into. The Raise ability will unearth hidden secrets and lore that have been lost amongst the sands of time. You can even create new pathways thanks to structures that have been overtaken by the dunes. Lastly, Crush will let players destroy magical seals, granting you access to otherwise inaccessible areas.

Developers Deck13 promises that there will be many optional activities and quests that players can partake in. You will get to know the history of the land, help the innocent flourish, and even wreak mayhem behind enemy lines. It all depends on how much you invest in exploring.

The Atlas Has Fallen

Atlas Fallen will be released on May 16, 2023. The title will be available on PC and current-gen consoles, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. You can get the base version of the game for $49.99, and the “Signature Edition” for double the price at $99.99. This gives fans a wooden print of the game and a certificate of authenticity.
