Ark: Survival Ascended Had “Critical Issues” On Console, Which Prompted Delay To November

Ark: Survival Evolved’s remake, Survival Ascended, is out now on Steam Early Access, but the console edition for PlayStation and Xbox has been delayed to November. In a blog post, developer Studio Wildcard said the team found some “critical issues” related to the game’s multiplayer.

These issues “would have had major implications,” so Studio Wildcard opted to delay Survival Ascended on console to November. The studio did not, however, discuss what these issues were.

“We understand that this news is disappointing, and trust us, we’re disappointed too. The team really did aim to get everything out for all platforms in October, but we fell short just at the finish line,” Studio Wildcard said. “We’re sorry about that, as we know a lot of you have been very excited about this launch and made plans around it.”

If there is a silver lining here, it could be that Ark: Survival Ascended’s console edition will now be more in line with the PC edition. “The additional time lets us resolve those specific multiplayer issues and bring the game up to the PC specification, which received a number of critical improvements as the console versions were going through certification,” Studio Wildcard said.

It added: “The added benefit of this change is that it also enables us to ensure a smoother console launch as we’ll have fought many of the initial fires with PC and have a more content-rich and stable modding experience that has been battle-tested when the game becomes available on consoles.”

When Ark: Survival Ascended eventually comes to console, there will be “bonus rates” for console players for a limited period of time to allow console users to “catch yourself up,” the studio said.

“We know that this news is far from ideal, however we’ll be doing our best to make the game as good as it can be when it launches in November,” Studio Wildcard explained.

Ark: Survival Ascended is described as a “top-to-bottom” remake of the original Ark, featuring significantly improved graphics and many other updated features via Unreal Engine 5.

Studio Wildcard is also developing Ark 2, featuring Vin Diesel, for release in 2024.
