Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 brings in a host of villains in a way the movies only hoped to. There are a lot, so it’s easy to get confused or lose track of them. However, we have the main cast of villains below along with their comic inspirations.

There will be spoilers for the game, not game-ending stuff, but enough where some villain’s entrances will be ruined. Avoid the Venom part if you don’t want to know who replaced Eddie Brock as Venom’s host.

Who is Sandman in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?

Flint Marko is Sandman. He became trapped in an irradiated sand pit after nuclear testing. By controlling sand, he was able to make himself larger by using nearby sand. He is particularly difficult to defeat because he lacks a solid form for the Spider-Men to web up on. Water is his well-known weakness.

Sandman is pretty close to his comic counterpart. In the comics, he gained his powers after being exposed to irradiated sand during a prison escape. He is a founding member of the Sinister Six, a team of supervillains dedicated to defeating Spider-Man. Despite his criminal past, Sandman has also redeemed himself on occasion and has even worked alongside Spider-Man.

He is voiced by Leandro Cano.

Who is Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?

A symbiotic-like entity was used by Norman Osborn in treating Harry Osborn as his illness worsened. The symbiote ends up taking over and Harry Osborn becomes Venom instead of Eddie Brock.

In the comics, Venom is an alien symbiote that bonded with Eddie Brock, a disgraced journalist who hated Spider-Man. The backstory is that Spider-Man revealed that Eddie’s recent story was wrong and underresearched. The symbiote gave Brock superhuman powers and a twisted sense of justice. Venom is one of Spider-Man’s most iconic arch-nemeses, but he has also been a reluctant ally to the web-slinger on occasion.

On a side note, I don’t understand how this made sense. If you see the symbiote on anyone else, it matches their body, and that explains why Venom looks the way he does—Eddie Brock was a body builder. Yet it turns skinny and dying Harry into this hulking beast, which isn’t in line with how the symbiote works. I see the reasoning, but they could have showed Harry using some kind of steroid to fight his illness, start bulking up, and then the symbiote would take over to protect him. It feels really weird to see Harry transition in the game because it’s such a huge change that we’re not used to.

Venom is voiced by Tony Todd.

Martin Li was used as a test subject for Norman Osborn’s Devil’s Breath when he was young. Martin gained his powers as a result of this incident, which led to his vendetta against the scientist, which led to the death of his family. In Marvel’s Spider-Man, he planned on stealing Devil’s Breath and unleashing it on New York as a way to get back at Norman, who was now mayor. He returns in this game to get his revenge on Spider-Man.

Martin Li is the alter ego of Mister Negative, a supervillain who can harness a form of negative energy. In the comics, Li is a wealthy philanthropist who secretly runs a criminal empire. He is one of Spider-Man’s most formidable foes, and contrary to popular belief, he was introduced in the comics before getting into the games.

Marin Li is voiced by Stephen Oyoung.

Mysterio (Quentin Beck) is really close to his comic counterpart. He’s a former special effects artist and illusionist who uses his talents to commit crimes. As a master of deception, he can create elaborate illusions that fool people into believing that something is not what it seems. He was recently released from prison in the game, which is bad because Mysterio is one of Spider-Man’s most dangerous foes.

Mysterio is voiced by Noshir Dalal.

In spite of the fact that the transformation is typically temporary, Spider-Man is required to intervene to prevent injuries to anyone around him.
