American Idol fans threaten to hijack votes over Iam Tongi finale spot | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

American Idol fans have come up with a cunning plan to get their favourite contestant in the final as they hope to ruin another competitor’s chances.

The hit ABC talent show has recently come under fire from viewers after many have begged for changes to the long-standing programme.

But now it looks like fans are taking matters into their own hands, as they are now planning to come together to vote for contestant Iam Tongi to take victory over his competitor Colin Stough.

On Tuesday, one determined fan @margokuj began a campaign on Reddit, as they asked fans to come together to ensure contestant Iam gained plenty of votes.

“To shut out Mr. Country mumbler, we must vote for Iam!!!” they titled their thread, slamming Colin’s singing style.

The user continued his rant, writing: “Iam is going to get a lot of votes!!! I have never voted for him (maybe once at the beginning) but I will be voting for him on Sunday night!! 

“I do not want yet another mediocre country singer to win!” they added. 

Many other fans agreed, with user @Jmart2324 writing: “Ya I am voting IAm I refuse to let country win every year.”

With @Potterhead-PottHead pointing out: “I think Collin is great. Everyone this season has been great… Iam will win though. And I think by a landslide.”

@StephenBoldman weighed in: “Country music fans rule The Voice and American Idol. I love country music but not enough to vote for less talented artists

However, not all American Idol viewers were willing to cooperate with the boycott. 

@Such_Cauliflower_669 defended Colin, writing: “Exactly lol. Trying to turn people against an entire genre just cuz it’s popular and you’re sick of it aint gonna work lmao.”

Another fan @Ne_Dragon_216 weighed in, adding: “Just because you don’t like his type of singing, you don’t have to be rude, And because of this, I will not be voting for Iam, Not with people like you back in him.”

While @positive-Avocado-881 added: “Lol no I don’t want Iam to win.” (sic)

It comes after fans were infuriated that contestant Wé Ani was voted out before the season finale.

Furious viewers claimed have insisted that the show was rigged after Wé should have had a place in the top three instead of country singer Colin, who made it through to the final.

The American Idol final, which will air May 21, will see contestants Megan Danielle, Colin Stough and Iam Tongi compete to win the title.
