Publisher Prime Matter and developer MAD Head Games have announced during The Game Awards 2022 that the action-adventure game, Scars Above, will launch for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on February 28th.
Scars Above was one of the many titles revealed at this year’s Game Awards presentation and features an enigmatic space structure and atmospheric theme. According to the game’s description, an alien vehicle has appeared in Earth’s orbit, posing a threat to all of humanity. A team of engineers and scientists called the Sentinent Contact Assessment and Response (SCAR) is tasked with investigating this mysterious structure to determine whether it is friendly or not. However, the spaceship hauled SCAR across space onto an extrasolar planet.
Players will take on the role of Dr. Kate Ward, a SCAR member who must survive on a mysterious planet with a hostile environment. They will try to find the rest of SCAR and unravel the mystery behind what happened to them. Although Kate is a scientist who has no experience in killing or fighting, she is determined to survive against all odds to save her friends. Players will have access to a wide array of weapons, devices, and consumables, as they will combine them with melee and elemental attacks during combat. Besides that, they will need to manage their stamina as they dodge, run, and exploit the weak points of their enemies.
In an immersive world inspired by science-fiction classics, players need to craft different items and gadgets to stand against threats, as they explore an alien planet with landscapes and ruins. There will also be different biomes that have their own set of challenges, enemies, secrets, and hazards, such as marshlands, freezing wastelands, alien facilities, and underground caverns. Perhaps most interestingly, players can extract information from their surroundings by using Kate’s scientific expertise. They can scan materials, artifacts, and even monsters to learn more about their features and weaknesses.
Players can conduct analysis as they explore the world, allowing them to craft new weapons, items, and gadgets. They can also unlock abilities in xenobiology and engineering trees, which will bring them many advantages against monsters in combat. Scars Above will release on February 28th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
