However, fans are concerned about the lack of information regarding crossplay support between PC and consoles as we approach the release date on July 25, 2023, and for good reason. While Remnant: From the Ashes was playable solo, it shined when playing with friends. There has been no official announcement from Gunfire on whether Remnant 2 will have crossplay. A lack of an announcement concerns fans, as Remnant 2 is the co-0p game of the year, and they want to know if they should pre-order. However, based on how Gunfire handled the release of Remnant from the Ashes, we will assume that crossplay will not be supported on launch unless otherwise announced.
With that bit of disappointing news out of the way, we can make some speculations based on how crossplay was implemented for Remnant: From the Ashes after launch, and I’m afraid there will most likely be more disappointing news for fans, but I will get to that shortly. First, I want to discuss how crossplay worked when it was released for the first title. First, players who bought Remnant: From the Ashes on the Steam and Epic Games Store platforms could only play with each other. In addition, PC players who bought the first Remnant on the Microsoft store could only play with Xbox console players since the Microsoft servers were isolated. Finally, PlayStation 4 and 5 players could only play with each other.
So, what does this mean for Remnant 2 once crossplay is made available? The two most significant changes are that Remnant 2 is only available on the latest-gen consoles, meaning players who still own last-gen consoles will be out of luck. Additionally, Remnant 2 is unavailable on the Microsoft store, meaning PC players cannot play with Xbox console players. Finally, no announcement has been made if Xbox and PlayStation players can play together through console crossplay.
Remnant 2 not having crossplay at launch is looking like a reality, and things are getting even more complicated when you talk about PC and consoles. The only thing I would recommend now is to make sure you and your friends agree on which platform to purchase Remnant 2 on, just in case crossplay is supported and how you would need it to work.
