when and why it happens

In Hades 2, Eris, a daughter of Nyx, may appear every now and then to stir up a little trouble. She doesn’t appear the same for everyone, however, and for some, not at all.

What is Eris’ Blessingi in Hades 2?

When Eris appears, it’s not a good sign. Upon meeting her in your run, she will bless you, which usually means you’ve been buffed in some sort of way. Eris, however, will debuff you, making you take more damage to enemies.

The first time she’ll do this each run will make you take 20% more damage from enemy attacks, which is a huge increase in damage. This is practically run-ending, and it seems like that’s the intention.

However, Eris’ Blessing is not permanent, and will end when either you fail, or make it to the next area. I was rather concerned when I thought that I would be receiving more damage for the foreseeable future.

Run-ending scripted events isn’t uncommon in rogue-likes. It forces the player to back to the start, where important events may have transpired. In Hades 2, a lot is to be spoken of when you return. However, the further you progress, the more of these conversations and content you’ll miss.

It seems that Eris’ Blessing is a mechanism meant to slow players down if they’re advancing too fast. When brought up with Odysseus, he will say that she seems to be doing it out of boredom and that eventually, she’ll get sick of it. But that has yet to happen.

I’ve only come across Eris once, and a co-worker of mine has yet to encounter her at all. However, Reddit user Kanzyn has reported that players seem to be running into Eris rather often.

All things considered, Eris will likely appear more often to players who are making great progress in each run. Although this may seem punishing, and it essentially is, it allows the player to engage in more of the story that they would have missed had they been able to access Chronos within the first ten runs.

Thankfully, if Eris is a problem for you, then it means that the game itself isn’t. More runs may seem an infuriation, but hey, you get to play Hades 2 more.

To get more powerful to circumvent Eris’ Blessing, you’ll want to take advantage of the amazing Keepsakes.
