Moving On

Release Date: March 17 in Theaters

Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda can’t stop working together … and nor should they! The iconic stars of the big and small screens reunite once more in the revenge comedy Moving On. Written and directed by Paul Weitz, the film follows Claire (Fonda) and Evelyn (Tomlin), two estranged best friends who meet again after their mutual friend’s death. Even though it’s been over four decades, the two are still resentful about something their friend’s widower (Malcolm McDowell) did in their past. So, they plot to kill him.

Collider’s Maggie Lovitt loved the film, saying in her review, “Moving On is yet another tour de force for Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, who once again prove that they are a force to be reckoned with. To their credit, Fonda and Tomlin continue to be trailblazers for women (of all ages) as they surround themselves with projects that remind the world that women in their 80s are still funny, determined, sexy, and powerful—and it’s thrilling to see them reclaim these tropes that are often ascribed to much younger actresses.”

Wildflower

Release Date: March 17 in Theaters

Bea Johnson (Kiernan Shipka) did not have a typical childhood. Growing up with intellectually disabled parents, Sharon (Samantha Hyde) and Derek (Dash Mihok), means that she sometimes has to look out for them more than they have to care for her. The closer college nears and leaving home becomes an option, her life gets exceedingly more complicated. Wildflower is a sweet story about the sacrifices we make for the ones we love and how we perceive others. The film premiered at TIFF and also stars Charlie Plummer, Brad Garrett, Jean Smart, Jacki Weaver, Reid Scott, and Alexandra Daddario.

The Magician’s Elephant

Release Date: March 17 on Netflix

Are you brave enough to dream? Based on the popular story by Kate DiCamillo, the animated fantasy adventure The Magician’s Elephant follows the whimsical journey of Peter (Noah Jupe), a young orphaned boy who is desperate to find his lost sister. After being told by a fortune teller (Natasia Demetriou) that a magician can help him find her, Peter embarks on a journey filled with love, risk, and the hopeful reward.

Inside

Release Date: March 17 in Theaters

We all remember what it’s like to be stuck inside, but it wasn’t quite like this. Willem Dafoe captivates and thrills in Inside, a stylized film that follows Nemo (Dafoe), an expert art thief specializing in the priciest of works who is, for the first time, stuck. Rather than escape undetected, he gets trapped during a heist inside a lavish New York City penthouse and must get creative with how to survive. Inside, which had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival, was directed by Vasilis Katsoupis and co-written by him and Ben Hopkins. Marco Vito Oddo said in his review, “Everything is glued together by another Dafoe performance that proves he’s one of the greatest actors of all time, especially when given enough room to tap into the lunacy of his characters. In short, Katsoupis managed to craft a crowd pleaser that still has something interesting to say.”

Lucky Hank

Release Date: March 19 on AMC/AMC+

Don’t let the title fool you: This Hank fellow is a bit of an unhappy soul. From the producers of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul and based on Straight Man by Pulitzer Prize winner Richard Russo comes the dramedy series Lucky Hank. Bob Odenkirk stars in the titular role as a reluctant English department chairman of a struggling college in Pennsylvania who maybe has just had enough. With work, family, life … everything. But, he’s going to try to keep his cool and behave—until he simply cannot.

Collider’s Tania Hussain details in her review, “As Odenkirk steers the ship with terrific, vivid immediacy, Lucky Hank embodies a plenitude of warmth and sadness that lays down the roots for a show that is whimsically lovable. Weave in some very poignant backstories with Hank’s crass, and you’ve got a story that is in no way familiar, yet feels comfortable and one you want to stick around for.”
