After Netflix renewed its hit Wednesday for a second run, fans can’t wait to see the return of some of their favourite creepy characters. When it comes to Christina Ricci’s character, Marilyn Thornhill, it’s not clear whether she could make a return in the upcoming season following the events of season one. But Ricci claims “the door is open” when it comes to her character’s return.

Ricci made an appearance at the season 2 premiere of Yellowjackets this week, which was held at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the actress reflected on the critically acclaimed TV shows she has featured in over the past year.

One of them being Netflix’s comedy-horror drama Wednesday, where she played the role of Marilyn.

Marilyn was the seemingly sweet and supportive teacher who was later revealed to be the hidden villainess, also known as Laurel Gates in season one.

However, Ricci’s character was ultimately defeated by some angry bees and seemingly finished off with a harsh kick to the face, but her actual fate was left somewhat inconclusive.

Ricci remained tight-lipped when asked if she could potentially return for the highly anticipated second season.

Delivering a cryptic response, Ricci said: “I don’t think I’m allowed to say.”

But still insisted: “On my end, the door is open,” for a return to the hit supernatural drama.

The actress described how it was “fun to play” the role of the sneaky Marilyn, adding: “It’s always so fun to play a villain.”

Ricci also had a lot of praise for her co-star Jenna Ortega who plays the lead role of Wednesday Addams.

When asked if she’s given Ortega any guidance on dealing with fame at a young age, Ricci explained: “Jenna is so smart and grounded and talented and capable, I think she doesn’t need any help.”

“She’s so capable. I think she’s going to handle it all amazingly well,” she added.

Although Ricci’s possible return to Wednesday is being kept under wraps, the actress could discuss her comeback to her other horror drama series, Yellowjackets.

When asked about her role in the upcoming season, the actress explained how she likes “playing a character where I don’t have to be vain, you know?”

Ricci stars as the older Misty Quigley, an eager-to-please outcast who served as the equipment manager for the WHS Yellowjackets team.

The actress explained: “We’re so vain in our daily lives that it’s nice to hide behind that.”

She added: “I think it’s so fun and I love the way she dresses and I love not having to really worry about any kind of glam.”

When it comes to Wednesday, lead star Ortega recently revealed the horror aspect in season two will be amplified.

Meaning the new season could introduce a new and potentially even scarier villain than the previous Ms. Thornhill, helping the next run of episodes feel distinct from the first.

Season one of Wednesday is available to stream on Netflix in the UK.
