Warzone 2 Reportedly Inspired By Black Ops 4’s Blackout

A new report suggests Call of Duty: Warzone 2 could be taking elements from Treyarch’s Battle Royale title, Blackout. Straying further from the traditional Warzone experience that players know and love.

Call of Duty: Warzone is the series’ biggest Battle Royale mode, but it wasn’t the first. When Black Ops 4 was released in 2018, Treyarch Studios also launched a new mode known as Blackout, the very first Call of Duty Battle Royale experience.
Of course, with a completely different development team at the helm, there’s a stark contrast between the two Battle Royale titles. But it looks like the two titles could be about to cross paths as rumours suggest Infinity Ward is creating a more Blackout-esque experience for Call of Duty: Warzone 2.

Warzone 2 Could Be More Blackout Than Traditional Warzone

The news comes from Call of Duty YouTuber, NerosCinema, who has over 600,000 subscribers. Although not known for leaking information on Call of Duty, the claims have been backed up by credible industry insider, Tom Henderson.

In NerosCinema’s most recent video, he claims to have heard a few details surrounding Warzone 2 from a source he calls “Jay”. Most importantly, he states that “Warzone 2 is claimed to be a bit more like Blackout than the original Warzone was”.

First of all, loadout drops will still be a part of Warzone 2 but will work very differently according to the rumours. The YouTuber goes on to claim that to get a loadout drop in Warzone 2, players will need to go to a ‘stronghold’ on the map and complete certain challenges such as defeating AI, defusing bombs, etc.

Unlike Blackout, Warzone 2 will stick with the current ground loot system. This means weapon attachments will be pre-determined, unlike Blackout which allows players to swap out certain attachments if they find them.

Armour plates will also be returning, but players will reportedly need to find a satchel to equip any sort of armour. But one of the biggest changes will come in the form of an inventory system.

NerosCinema claims that their source informed them of a new bag system to store weapons, killstreaks, and more. This means players will need to decide what’s more important to their playstyle, as there will only be a limited amount of inventory space.

It has also been claimed that a brand new map will arrive with Warzone 2, with one of the points of interest being Terminal from the original Modern Warfare 2. The leaker also states that previous rumours of Verdansk returning is true, but is expected at a later date.

Industry insider Tom Henderson also took to Twitter to reveal that the new Warzone 2 map “looks more like Blackout than it does Warzone in terms of layout”.

Of course, we recommend you take all of these details with a huge grain of salt. Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is currently still in development, which means concepts and features can change drastically before launch.
