Walter Presents is bringing ‘The Twelve – The Cinderella Murder’ to More4 and Channel 4 in May.

Starring Koen De Graeve, Louisa Peeters, Peter Van den Begin and Inge Paulussen, the Belgian series is created by Bert Van Dael and Sanne Nuyens.

When the high court trial of ‘The Cinderella Murder’ starts nerves run high. Julie Bergman (20) is accused together with her father Anton Bergman (48) of murdering her stepmother and Anton’s partner Marianne Coens (45). Julie has confessed to pushing Marianne down the stairs. But Marianne had also received a blow to the head and Julie claims she knows nothing about that. In addition she also denies any involvement by her father and loudly proclaims Anton’s innocence. But their statements contradict each other. Anton was found next to the body in a confused state and traces of blood in the living room showed that Marianne’s body was dragged along by two people.

Twelve jury members have been selected to give a verdict in this complex case: court journalist Nico (32) is determined to identify all the facts and reach a correct verdict; the committed Murad (29) thinks that everyone is responsible for their own actions and has no intention of being lenient; the rather shy Catherine (62), whose marriage ended a while ago, initially seems to support the version of the public prosecutor’s office; the amiable Simon (37), whose wife Esther is in a wheelchair following an accident, has sympathy for Anton, whose partner Marianne was regularly plagued by headaches.

During the trial the various parties are defended by a number of high-profile criminal lawyers: Claire Verlinden (46) defends Julie; Frank Dedoncker (50) defends Anton; Ivo Muylle (72) and his daughter Charlotte (28) defend the interests of the civil parties; and Sibel Demir (38), represents the public prosecutor’s office as the youngest female public prosecutor.

During the trial we go home with the various jury members at the end of the day and so find out about their private lives.

As the trial rumbles on the personal lives of the jury members also start to influence the way in which they experience the trial and ultimately also their decision regarding guilt. And throughout the trial the question remains whether Julie and Anton are guilty of Marianne’s murder and what exactly happened. The truth turns out to be different from what the jury ultimately thinks.

Walter Presents: ‘The Twelve – The Cinderella Murder’ launches on More4 with a double-bill on 10th May 2024. Episodes will then air weekly and you can watch them on C4 Streaming too.
