The village is the first major area you explore in Resident Evil 4 Remake. After clearing the village, you’ll head south to the Village Chief’s Manor. This building is a sharp contrast from what Leon has seen up until now, as the Chief was clearly living in a more luxurious home than the rest of the villages.
While exploring the building, it will be eerily quiet and will have a single infected enemy in the downstairs bathroom. On the upper floor will be a door you’ll need to get through to proceed out of the village; here’s how to open the door.
Village Chief’s Manor
The Villages Chief’s Manor is a larger building that currently seems untouched by the infection plaguing the city. The front door will be locked, but you can head around back to the unlocked door. While you will come back here later, it’s worth taking the time to look around the manor to get some consumables for the coming fights. Through the door on the left will be a small bathroom with a single infected within, and clearing it out will allow you to be alone while you search the rest of the manor.
In the main room, you’ll be able to unlock the front door, which will come in handy when you return later, along with finding a small key on the windowsill. On the main dining room table will be a family photo to check out, along with an oven with an egg within. Downstairs, there are a few other cabinets and barrels to break for other loot that is worth looking for before moving on. A dresser with a combination lock will be in one of the side rooms downstairs.
Unlocking The Dresser And The Bedroom
Upstairs will be a small hallway leading to a door with a missing circular piece and a table halfway through the hallway. To get through the door, the dresser downstairs will need to be opened first. The lock has different symbols on it, and the correct combination can be found by returning to the table you passed in the upstairs hallway and reading the book. For those wanting to solve the puzzle themselves, reading the book will hint at the three symbols needed to be entered on the lock.
For those looking for the answer, the correct combination is Wheat, Pig, and Baby (from left to right). After entering the combination, the dresser will open, giving Leon a glass ball. Taking this glass ball to the door upstairs will have you put it in the hole on the door, requiring you to line up the dots within to recreate the emblem of the village, which will then open the door. In the back right corner on the other side of the bed will be a ladder just out of Leon’s reach that he can’t access alone. There will also be a picture that can be investigated directly in front of where you entered; interacting with it will progress the story.
