This includes all digital sales and shipments of physical editions.

Over 300,000 units of the Type-Moon visual novel Tsukihime ~A piece of blue glass moon~ for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 have been sold, according to a statement released today by publisher Aniplex. Inclusive of all shipments and digital sales, the total number of units sold has increased by 25% since the last sales report published in September 2021, a month after the game’s release.

A remake of the cult classic visual novel by the same name, Tsukihime ~A piece of blue glass moon~ launched exclusively in Japan on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 consoles in August 2021. Featuring select changes to the original Tsukihime storyline, as well as enhanced artwork and audio, Tsukihime ~A piece of blue glass moon~ was marketed in Japan as the first entry in the all-new Tsukihime Remake saga, with similar current-gen of later Tsukihime games to follow.

Three versions of Tsukihime ~A piece of blue glass moon~ have been available for each console at launch: a digital edition, downloadable from the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop, a standard physical edition, and a limited physical edition which includes an exclusive cover for the game, as well as a “Tsukihime Material I: Material of Blue Glass Moon” art book, all packed inside a special illustration box.

While Tsukihime ~A piece of blue glass moon~ and all Tsukihime titles preceding it have achieved considerable commercial success in Japan, developer Type-Moon has infamously kept the series exclusive to Japan since its very inception. No international version of Tsukihime ~A piece of blue glass moon~ has been announced following the game’s 2021 launch, nor have any of the previous titles in the series ever officially been translated into English.

In recent months, however, Type-Moon has shattered twenty plus years of staunch Japanese exclusivity by releasing the visual novel Witch On The Holy Night in the West, complete with full localization and multi-language support. In addition to this, however, Type-Moon has confirmed that Witch On The Holy Night is a prequel to the Tsukihime Remake saga. This seemingly-innocuous statement of confirmation is one that visual novel fans have latched on to, with many speculating that the developer may well have plans to release the full Tsukihime Remake saga internationally in chronological order – thus beginning not with Tsukihime ~A piece of blue glass moon~, but with the saga’s spiritual predecessor, Witch On The Holy Night.

Nothing has been confirmed, of course, but fans are more hopeful than ever. Perhaps the sales figures published today will help encourage Type-Moon to bring Tsukihime ~A piece of blue glass moon~ to overseas audiences, along with many of the other coveted titles in the developer’s back catalogue.
