Bethesda and Tango Gameworks have announced that Ghostwire: Tokyo will arrive on Xbox Series X|S on April 12 alongside a new content update, titled Spider’s Thread, which adds new challenges, skills, areas, and story cutscenes. The supernatural action game will be available on Xbox and PC Game Pass at launch.
Ghostwire: Tokyo had previously been rumored to be coming to Xbox consoles last year. A brand-new artwork on the wall of Bethesda’s publishing HQ in London has leaked online, which hinted that an Xbox version is on the way. However, it was also reported that Ghostwire: Tokyo had a timed exclusivity deal with PlayStation, which ended in March of this year. That means Bethesda is now free to bring its psychological horror game to Xbox. The studio has already been hard at work developing Starfield, the Xbox-exclusive title that was recently given a September release date following another delay.
Apart from its Xbox release, Ghostwire: Tokyo will receive a major content update that will be free for all players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Titled Spider’s Thread, the upcoming update adds more areas to explore, new abilities to cut down enemies, and new challenges to earn rewards. A new mode separate from the main game will also be added, which requires players to navigate a 30-stage gauntlet gathered from more than 130 levels. Players will clear up waves of enemies and complete challenges to earn upgrades, and they will have to start back from the beginning if they die at any point during a run.
The update brings new locations that include additional story details. Furthermore, new missions and extended story cutscenes are included in the Spider’s Thread update, alongside new foes such as Retribution, Silent Gaze, and Sanguine Dancer. Perhaps most excitingly, the player’s arsenal of abilities will be expanded with a few combat skills like “the Counter-Attack to follow up a successful block, Quick Dodging to evade enemy attacks, and the Charge Rush, an evolution of your Ethereal Weaving technique that allows you to augment your Palm Strike into an elementally charged melee strike!” the developer team provided details on the new skills via a blog post.
Lastly, players will be able to utilize new Tengu Wind and Spiritual Fountain talismans, which allow them to drop a whirlwind to leap up to new heights and replenish their Ether reserves.
