Dermot has seen his odds of replacing Phillip lashed by Ladbrokes in the last 24 hours after Phillip’s exit.

His odds are now at 5/2, from 4/1, making him the new second-favourite to Alison, who has also seen her price cut to 6/4.

Jessica O’Reilly of Ladbrokes said: “It’s starting to look like a clear two-horse race between Alison and Dermot now to become Holly’s new co-host.

She added: “However, it’s not out of the realms of possibility This Morning bosses mix things up by bringing in someone like Bradley Walsh, who is clearly loved by ITV viewers.”

Alison took to social media on Friday to say how she was gutted after saying goodbye to co-star Ella Bates, who worked behind the scenes on This Morning as a digital producer.

She wrote: “I am absolutely devastated that Ella Bates is leaving. She has been a breath of fresh air every single day.”

The star is yet to open up about Phillip’s exit and whether she will be stepping in as a permanent host.

She has already landed the role of presenter on the new series of The Great British Bake Off, taking over from Matt Lucas.

On her new role, she said: “Finally I can talk about it! I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the Great British Bake Off and can’t wait to meet this year’s bakers.

“It’s a huge honour to be back in the tent and I can’t wait to get started.”

This Morning airs on weekdays on ITV from 10am
