There’s a big wide world of Palpagos to explore but there are some things we wish we knew before playing Palworld. Here are some tips and tricks on surviving the crazy open-world Pal collecting Palworld.

Things I Wish I Knew Before Playing Palworld

Palworld open world survival game has already garnered over 6 million copies sold in just the first week of its early access launch. If you’ve yet to try out the game and planning on battling, building and buddying up here’s some great tips to get you started. There are a few things you should know before playing the game that might come in handy and to keep in mind.

With a wide world of Pals to collect, where to start?

Palworld Building Your Base – Location, Location, Location

As with any survival game with base building, where you build your base can make all the difference. There’s a whole world out there with Pals freely roaming the wide space and they can run through your camp. This might not seem like a problem at first but having them repeatedly distract your working Pals can be a little troublesome and can even cause them to get hurt. Best to set up your home base somewhere with flat ground to avoid limiting where you can build due to incline. Also, a space that has plenty of resources such as trees to chop and rocks to mine stone and Paldium.

Choosing a flat area will make things easier to build your base

Avoid Inclines

While setting up shop at the first unlockable fast travel point might seem tempting, this area is quite hilly, and can cause issues for Pals who often get stuck in its rocky formation. To avoid Pals getting lodged into the side of the mountain choose a flatter location to avoid unnecessary trouble so they won’t go hungry or stop working. While it doesn’t take much to lift them up to get them unstuck, it can be bothersome especially when gets in the way of them doing their job.

Left to their own devices Pals can get wedged in awkward places, especially inclines. Choose a flat base to limit this from happening.

The Sealed Realm of Frozen Wings fast travel point is located on a very flat, large area of land next to the sea. It’s not a bad place to set up your stronghold as there are plenty of trees to log, rocks to mine and an open space for Pals to roam. Make sure to position your Palbox somewhere in the middle, so the blue circle doesn’t overlap any inclines.

Not All Pals are Made Equal

Collecting is a huge part of Palword make no mistake. Each Pal has their own unique Passive Skills which can make either battling or your base life much easier. Look out for Pals with good traits that can help in your survival and avoid ones that aren’t too helpful. This will also help determine which ones to leave at your camp and which ones to have in your party. You will also notice the little symbols which show what type of work they can do at your homestead, such as cooking (flame symbol), growing food (plant symbol) and even helping to build things.

Taking Pals such as Foxpark with you in your party is also useful at nighttime as its glowing red flame helps to light up the area. Command them to not attack by opening up the command wheel (press 4 if on PC) so you can use them as a nifty portable light when you’re not carrying a craftable Torch. Don’t forget to upgrade your Pals as they can unlock useful active abilities such as Foxpark’s flamethrower ability the Huggy Fire.

Level Up Your Technology in Palworld

Your Technology will give you ample options to not only upgrade your weapons but also your Pals. Riding gear is super useful to unlock a mount with certain Pals. Whilst mounted you gain a few different attacks and best of all you don’t have to dismount to pick up items. This makes exploring the world much easier with items such as harnesses for Pals, a parachute glider to glide from higher areas and a grappling gun to traverse the mountains. Each will require different items to craft but are worth doing to unlock some unique ways to fight.

Collect the Lifmunk Effigies

Along with leveling your character, Pals and stats, you can also collect glowing Lifmunk Effigies. These are dotted around the world and can be used with the Power Up Statue to improve your overall Pal catching skills. These statues exist around the world and also as a craftable statue for your base once you unlock them when in your Tech.

Follow the Tutorial Task and Missions

While it might seem like an obvious one, following the tutorial hints will help you level up faster and unlock further options. While you can still level your character and Pals, having further ways to improve your camp, character and more is key to making the experience much smoother. You can also increase the number of Pals that work at your base which makes crafting, collecting resources, cooking and much more easier to take on. Make sure to access Missions from your Palbox and complete them as you go.

Rocks Also Give Paldium

While not in abundance, the rocks don’t only give players Stone but also the useful resource of Paldium. Paldium is key in making items such as the Pal Spheres (which you need to unlock in your Technology tab) but are also needed for a number of craftable items. So if you’re short on Paldium glowing rocks, mine the ordinary-looking ones as well.

Stamina, Stamina and More Stamina

If you’ve played other open-world games such as Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, you will know that Stamina is a key component when it comes to exploring. Palword is no different as everything requires Stamina. Combat, running, swimming, climbing, chopping trees, mining stone and more require the use of Stamina. Putting points into Health, Attack or even Carry Capacity might seem like the best options but Stamina is what slows you down. And yes you can drown from not having enough Stamina while swimming, so watch your bar.

Hopefully, these useful tips come in handy on your adventures through Palpagos Island. What useful items or experiences have you had in Palworld? Let us know in the comments below.
