Nine discs, for nine companions: There’s no question that the nine-disc 4K UHD Blu-ray box set of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy is the ultimate way to own these classic movies. And now it’s massively discounted in a tasty Black Friday deal.

Amazon, in a repeat of a wildly popular deal it offered it offered during Prime Day in the summer, has discounted the set by 55% to $40.99 for Black Friday — down from its list price of $89.99. That’s almost $50 off, and less than half price.

What makes this set such a steal at this price is not just the remastered 4K quality of the movies (which still look fantastic, 20 years on) but the fact that, unlike all other Lord of the Rings box sets, the 4K collection includes both the theatrical cuts and the extended editions of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. So you’re getting not just the highest quality home version of the movies, but a choice in how you want to watch them.

If you’re tempted to invest, but not equipped for 4K Blu-ray playback yet — or if you fancy a dedicated 4K player to go alongside your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X — then you should consider one of these lovely Panasonic 4K Blu-ray players. And if you’re building a collection of movies, check out our list of the best 4K UHD releases of the year.
