The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Teased to Change Hyrule

Producer of the upcoming Zelda title Tears of the Kingdom, Eiji Aonuma has teased that the follow-up title will be making some changes to Hyrule. During the Famitsu Game Awards, he hinted that the game’s open world will be getting some innovations but didn’t go into any detail. The Famitsu Game Awards spotlight the Zelda game as it received the Most Anticipated Game.

So far Nintendo hasn’t been that forthcoming when it comes to new details, only previewing some of the gameplay in trailers. So far they have shown Link on a new airborne contraption and shown floating islands in the sky. Other new features include what could be a craftable vehicle and Link passing through solid surfaces.

Link will be rolling in one of these in Tears of the Kingdom.

Aonuma shared on stage (translated by Genki_JPN), “In the sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, furthermore, the player’s free imagination will be filled with a new gameplay that will bring about changes to the game world”. He also hopes players will be “pleasantly surprised” in exploring Hyrule in its “unknown” state. Exactly what he is referring to is currently unknown. It could be anything from locations to Link’s crafting options.

Shed No Tears

As we’re not too far off from the launch, being only a few months away, the hype has definitely intensified. Nintendo will surely have a deep dive into what’s to come for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Although they seem to be staying out of E3 2023 this year, that doesn’t mean their own showcase won’t give us the long-awaited juicy details.

Since this year’s E3 show didn’t fit into our plans, we have made the decision to not participate. However, we have been and continue to be a strong supporter of the ESA and E3.

Other concerns so far are how the current-gen model of the Switch will handle this new title. Big expectations follow the now $70 price tag. The constant rumours that a new Switch probably won’t be released anytime soon have not exactly installed hope. Nintendo still feels that their current console should be making another great year for the handheld hybrid. However, a next-gen console would be great if it were to drop alongside the next major instalment of Zelda. Of course, rumours are rumours so make sure you take that with a pinch of salt.
